Oh Lana Lee - will you never learn??
Of course not! That would take all the fun out of these stories! In this one, Lana finds herself in a feud with her sister (surprise surprise) which lands her taking a cooking class at the local adult learning center. After the class she heads home, only to realize she forgot her list for the next class! She turns around and heads back to the school. Once inside, she finds her instructor face down in the leftover fried rice - with a knife sticking out of her back!
Naturally Lana can’t stay out of it, and we follow her on her headache inducing journey to discover the truth about the murder of her Chinese cooking instructor.

I can see the appeal of this book. That gave it the three stars it got. For me personally, there were better ways to tell this story. I found it entirely annoying and I barely finished it if I’m being honest. Is this story bad? No it isn’t. It’s actually a pretty solid story. It’s interesting. The execution though - lord help me. Not a fan - but that’s just me.

This is a very interesting and relatively forgotten (read - glossed over) part of American history. These are the stories I love to hear. While they completely break my heart, it really shows just what the little people go through when they’re up against a giant corporation. There were many times this story made me angry. I found myself cheering along with these girls when things went well and crying with them when it didn’t. This is almost a horror story - except it’s real life. I’ve seen horror movies where people catch a virus that causes the damage these girls were living with. While that isn’t really a comparison, it really makes it that much more aggravating that it took these women so long to get what they deserved. If you’re looking for some forgotten history, I’d definitely recommend this one!

This is a perfect addition to the Lockgrove Bay series! After book one I found myself wondering what was going on with Lorena since Zeke (main character in book 2) broke her heart. I love where the story of Lorena and Beau went in this novella! It’s a sweet story with just enough drama to get a reader invested!

I received this book from free from the author in exchange for my honest review.
When I first started this book, it came across as a lot of drama. The petty kind, which is not to my taste. The more I read, the more I realized that this book is based on the very common relationship issue called “lack of communication”.
Josephine and Angel went from being besties to enemies after one fateful night in high school. This night sparked 10 years of non-communication between them and a world of misunderstandings that caused a couple broken hearts. When Josephine takes a job as the assistant wardrobe assistant for a band, she is shocked to see that she recognizes the bass player - Angel. From here it’s a rollercoaster of emotions.
The story includes flashbacks so we know what happened from the point of view of both Josephine and Angel. We see the raw emotion of everyone involved. It’s a great story with plenty of steam.
I also love that there is an anti-bullying campaign built into this book. As someone who has been bullied, it is near and dear to my heart. This book brings attention to the problem and it’s perfection.
Overall 4 stars - only because the beginning had me eye rolling over the drama. That’s not my thing.
