This was a cute romantic read. I enjoyed the characters and the development of their relationship, and this is one book I was rooting for the happily ever after

I don’t understand why this was rated as one of the most spicy romance books since it was pretty tame.

Liked the pirate aspect. Loved Barnacle. Was more interested in the secondary characters than the main characters. Found the insta love to be kind of annoying considering there’s so many books in this series. Could have used build up for more of a punch

My most favourite of the trilogy. I liked the setting and the mystery in this one. Still the same gripes as the others, but I was more invested in the world and the winter palace.

If I had to read “he smelled of smoke and clove” one more f*^cking time, I would have torn the book in half.

I appreciated the world building and the fantastical elements of the story. I liked the characters for the most part, standouts being everyone secondary to the MMC and FMC. The author’s writing style is repetitive and full of purple prose. Please learn to edit yourself… maybe invest in a thesaurus. We don’t need repeated descriptions of how a character smells, reference to him tasting like blood when you kiss (PSA: if you taste blood while kissing someone, stop biting so hard), and references to being the light or candle eyes. Just stop!!

I loved the first book in the series, but the last one fell flat. A lot of build up that is solved in ten pages. I also hated the introduction of a new pantheon of gods and another world in the third instalment. Seems like the author wasn’t really sure how to wrap up this story.

Also, the accent for Brita Filter was sooo annoying. I hate when people write accents and it doesn’t fit the rest of the tone or style.

The purple prose was a little much. The premise and world building was interesting, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the author’s style of writing. It was so long winded and over the top.

Re-reading a childhood series I remember enjoying to see if this is something I’d want to share with my nieces. These books are horrible. Mandie is a whiny, self-absorbed, selfish little t**t. Constantly stamping her feet and crying when she didn’t get her way (even at the age of 16), throwing her privileges around to get whatever she wanted, and generally being horrible to the adults in her life and her peers. The only redeeming character in the books is her cat Snowball, which is the only character I really remembered… that should have been my hint these were crap.

The books are incredibly racist and have harmful stereotypes against Indigenous people. Gives off white saviour vibes. Basically, Mandie is a quarter Cherokee but everyone loves her because she’s blonde, blue eyed, fair skinned and Christian. She can walk around and tell her kin what to do because she understand the difference between a good or bad Cherokee person… and it basically boils down to how well they adapt to western culture and Christianity.
