Super unique ghost story where a whole neighborhood turns into ghosts (houses, people, etc). Very unsettling but not scary. Fun, quick read.
A woman is haunted by the Mexican folk demon La Llorona while she tries to raise three children and find some kind of personal fulfillment, while also dealing with a gaslighting manchild of a husband.
What the story is really about: generational trauma, colonization, emotional abuse, and finding yourself.
Seriously though. Her husband was a fucking dingaling.
AND. THIS COVER IS BEAUTIFUL. LOOK AT IT.
This book was so bizarre in the absolute best possible way. I want to own a copy for my shelves. The story is about “everywoman” Jiyoung trying to survive in a deeply patriarchal society in Korea.
Someone else reviewed this as “160 pages of me silently screaming to myself” And YEP. YEP.

Listened to the audiobook. This book was so good! I loved the inclusion of MLM’s in the cultish discussion. 100% recommend.
creepy AF story - if this was a movie I'd nope the fuck out. That said, some of the dialogue between the couple was was cringy, but they were in their mid 20’s? Maybe young people talk like that? I dunno.
Super fun, quick read. Will definitely pick up something from this author again.
This book is bizarre as fuck and I still haven’t decided if it’s in a good way or meh way. I kind of loved it? The writing was beautiful.
That said, I was SUPER uncomfortable with the MC’s obsession with her thinness and other peoples fatness. We could have done without that.
Also, did NOT like that thing at the end.
adventurous
fast-paced
Gender bent Zorro retelling with magic & Nahuatl mythologies. This had all the things I love and was one of my most anticipated releases of the year, but unfortunately this wasn’t a five star. I’m still super bummed about it.
The writing was kind of simplistic (read like a YA), the pace was wonky and there were a few plot holes. 3.5 stars
