I enjoyed this quick little read after seeing it featured on the Libby app (and available to borrow immediately). While it wasn't particularly sophisticated and clearly had a slant, I liked it enough.

TOPICS/SUBJECTS: I love me a good scandal. And this was THE scandal during the early 1990's in Portland, Oregon. Tonya Harding, an up-and-coming underdog figure skater from Portland found herself caught in a criminal plot to injure fellow US Olympic hopeful Nancy Kerrigan. Although Harding continually denied knowledge of the plot (which was proven to be carried carried out by contacts connected to her then-husband), circumstances remained fuzzy. This book lays out the facts of the case, connecting it to coverage in local Portland newspaper The Oregonian and related research.

WRITING STYLE: Nothing to write home about (pun intended). Sometimes it was a little hard to follow, with run-on sentences involving four or five (even six) subjects.

LIKEABILITY: My enjoyment largely came from my previous interest in the subject matter and being a lifelong Portlander. It was fun to see local places and publications featured in the book, and made it much more relatable to me as a reader. Unless you're a big fan of the story, I probably wouldn't recommend this. It definitely feels like a mix between a series of journalistic exposes, notes from the case file, and a light defense of the normally-vilified Harding.
