Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC.

Okay. I absolutely loved the base plot of this book. But there were too many other moving pieces that at times made this feel a tad convoluted. Like the sub plot of the hit on Eddie was not necessary at all. Though I did like Mr. Christmas. I feel there may have been another way to let him into the plot.

Overall, I liked this. But the constant change of so many point of views and all the secondary plot points slowed the pace down a tad too much for me.

Thank you to the publisher for a free Netgalley.

3.5 stars

What I Liked:
- The characters-- I do enjoy how fleshed out the characters were and then the secondary characters were also just an enjoyable.
- Story Format-- I liked equally both the current and past timelines

What I Didn't:
- The past chapters were longgggggg. So at times it felt like the story was dragging a bit. It felt a lot longer than 272 pages.
-Also it is listed as a mystery, but I would call it more of a domestic drama

Okay. After seeing so much about this book on insta, I had major FOMO. So of course that meant I was ready to add it to my February BOTM box. However, I told myself to limit add ONS this year. I put it on hold on Libby and got it the day it came out!

Once I started reading it, Jan 21, I could not put it down. This book was an absolute dramatic, endearing, and sometimes frustrating book. I absolutely loved the format and enjoyed every single character for who they were and how they were used.

What stopped me from giving this 5? It got a tad repetitive at some points with the Kat & Heath relationship. I won't say anything more because it feels like a spoiler.

Shout out to Fargo, for dropping a reference to Taylor Swift's The Last Time because that is a highly underrated Swifty song!

4.5 stars-- HIGHLY recommend

Loved, loved, loved. Historical fiction with a murder to boot? Well written and could not put it down.

At one point I thought I’d really dislike this. Then it picked up. And I really enjoyed it. Didn’t love it— slow AF pacing. But solid read.

Thank you to the publisher, Netgalley, and Libro.fm for copies of this novel.

I read Black Cake after finally grabbing it from BOTM. I put off reading it and when I did, I was blown away. And as amazing as Black Cake was as a novel, I am saying this is better than that!

Ebby was a wonderfully written main character. We followed her, and her parents, through present day after multiple heartaches and losses have clouded over the family. Ebby's time in France was interesting and kept the audiobook flowing.

As we are in the present, we flow back through the past. In the past we learn of the jar that was created years and years before. Following the jar through slavery, freedom, generations of family, and then as it ends up in the story was just as intriguing as any of the present storylines.

I normally find when I read a book with multiple timelines, I find one to be slowing the plot or making the flow choppy. That was not the case with Good Dirt and it's move through time. This, I can already tell, will be in my top books of 2025!

I needed this to be about another 100 pages!
