Although I thought Cutters writing was good, Shelly ruined this book for me. The addition of a pointless "crazed psychopath" killer did nothing but make me wish the book didn't have him in it. He was a boring, uninspired character who provided no more tension than the initial premise, and only served to detract from it. He wasn't believable, and it nearly made me stop reading the book. The more I think about it the more annoyed I am by this character, to the point that his pointlessness ruined an otherwise solidly good book.

It was fine. It's a good breezy read with very little actually going on. I enjoyed the character interactions, and in the rare moments where plot happened, it was really well done.
Very LGBTQ+ friendly.

A lot of good stuff in this book. For the pure horror, the author builds tension well and holds it across many pages at a time. It makes you want to know more, even as you're peeking through your fingers.
It has some interesting themes m, though I'm not sure the author knew what they wanted to say with some of them.

A couple of descriptions stick out as offensive/out of place.
It's helpful to remember this was written 10+ years ago, and the author is not endorsing homophobic or islsmophonic views, merely using characters with these virws to solidify who these bigots were and what they thought.
Nothing wrong with it, it was just..very YA, and not quite engaging enough to bring me out of the start of my reading slump.
If you like YA and twists on myth, you'll probably like it. Just not for me!
