thunder and daisy by Mercedes Paradiso

Thunder and Daisy is great for fans of RH Sin and Lang Leav. I think that teens and new adults will resonate most with the topics of relationships, self exploration, and social media. The messages in the collection are personal but I think that the structure leaves room for improvement. I love the artwork that is included because it adds a special touch to the poems. Overall, I think it is a solid start for a debut collection with potential for growth.
Thank you to Mercedes Paradiso for this gifted copy of thunder and daisy to read and review.

I loved every single thing about this book. The artwork is gorgeous and inspirational all on its own. It has a poetic flow that is easy to read out loud, which I did practice doing. I can’t emphasize enough how important representation is and I am in awe of the work Rebekah Taussig and Kirbi Fagan put in to this story. I am already planning out who I’ll be buying a copy for- including my nieces and nephews, some friends who are expecting, and some friends who are teachers.

Sit, Cinderella, Sit: A Mostly True Memoir by Lisa Cheek
slow-paced
2.0
This memoir had an interesting story. Lisa Cheek has such a unique experience working as an editor on a Chinese film. The memoir touched on many topics such as sexism and ageism towards women in the film industry and pushing back against that bias. I felt like the writing style was under developed which is a large factor in my rating. But, I can tell that Lisa Cheek has a lifetime of stories worth writing about. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me this copy to read and review.
Phases: Poems by Tramaine Suubi

Phases is a beautiful debut poetry collection. The poems are approachable and easy to read, especially for readers new to poetry, while being lyrical and thought provoking. I really enjoyed the artful way the poems were categorized by the phases of the moon- giving the collection its name. It felt like the natural progression of a story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Amistad for supplying me with an advanced reader copy of Phases by Tramaine Suubi.
