I'm very picky when it comes to audiobooks but the narrator was very understandable but I was able to listen to this audiobook my cochlear implant.

It is a very insightful book about Rober Oppenheimer and politics of the time. It provided in depth historical context into the Spanish Civil War, the reasoning why many people got involve in communism, world war two tensions, the development of the atomic bomb, the cold war, and the subsequent backlash against anyone who was tangently involved in communism.

My only criticism was some of book could've been better condensed. However, it's apparen that this book was very well researched.

Let's just preface this with I only read this book because I agreed it was only reasonable to judge him after reading his book. His Deaf U crimes set aside...

The book was bit self-[redacted] and written more for the hearie audience in mind. Did not really provide me with any additional context about the wider Deaf community that may have benefited or interested me. At times bordering on disability inspiration porn. Also Nyle also presented a lack of self awareness and self reflection when he more or less shrugged off how a black woman was very upset that part of her hair was shaved off for America's Next Top Model and more or less said so? I'm Deaf. I too am Deaf and I don't have the privilege of coming from a multi-generation Deaf family. No, my family is all hearing. It's rather horrifying at times. Anyways, let's just say I would be more distraught over having half of my hair shaved of than I ever been about my deafness and the fact that my cochleas never worked.

Also, the way sign language was portrayed in the book was quite strange to me.

Only plus was the book was rather readable and easy to burn through.

It will be interesting to see if he can start to redeem himself with the Deaf President Now documentary that's coming out soon.

Let's just say I do fear that I work with men, such men that exist in this book. How can I summariz  this book? Misogynistic, something something about sex and capital, and very pent up men. Any notion of satire or any meaningful critique is quite frankly lost on me.

The main reason why I don't like this book is because in the Epilogue (where she covers stuff that I have a lot of knowledge about) she presents a lot of stuff that I know to be factually incorrect and perpetuates a lot of misinformation. I am going to update this with a long review, but after compiling notes to refute a lot of the factually incorrect information she presents about Cochlear Implants (and some other stuff). But first, I need to thoroughly research everything and refine my points.

All I can say is that I wish I had this book when I was a kid. Me and Cece really did have a lot of shared experiences growing up. It was healing to read it and reread it as an adult.

It does also explore the complicated themes of ableism and audism. Internalized and otherwise.
