Hearing author uses deafness as symbolism for isolation, cue distorted music because the protagonist has a cochlear implant. *yawns*

I'm Deaf and quite frankly I am not very familiar with the blind community at all. Although the book was quite American centric (and understandably so because the author himself is American) it still opened an interesting world for me and made me realize that the two groups are really not all that different in various aspects. I also appreciated how it gave me a lot of additional information about the disability rights movement in the states and how it tied into the civil rights movement. I also did find the history of the NFB to be quite shocking while quite interesting at the same time (against the ADA? and guide dogs too!?). I also appreciated how the author explored the idea of being in between the state of seeing and completely blind and kind of wondering when his last bit of vision was going to go. I can relate to that experience of being in between.

Six Thirty does redeem things a bit. However, I do have mixed feelings about this book and I'm a bit too lazy to write them all out.

Honestly, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I had low expectations, a play from the 1800s? Oh it'll be boring, dense, and difficult. I was wrong! I thought the play was quite amusing and funny. I also started watching the 1952 adaption and "the handbaaag" line will never stop cracking me up.
