Hmm I didn't like this as much as I thought I would :/ besides a few standout lines I didn't really connect with most of the poems. My favorites were "Dream of Destruction", "How We Are Made", "The Year of the Goldfinches", "Full Gallop", and "Cargo"
This took me a while to get into, but once you get past the different format and flowery prose, the author's storytelling skills really shine through and she creates such a threatening and immersive atmosphere. Once I got past part 1 I read 150 pages in one sitting. The parts I liked the least were the more academic non-fiction sections, it read very TED talk... In a way I didn't like. Everything else was excellent, very unsettling, real, scary, hopeful, and touching. The choose your own adventure section stressed me OUT
It did what it was set out to do, but the complete lack of editing at all was too distracting 2.5 ⭐
Touching and inspiring memoir, I'm really not interested in politics talk so some of the beginning parts were slow but it was cool to see how much work Sarah has done for trans rights in politics!
