Maybe will pick this up another time (as it was recommended to me and I like the prose), but I’m not in the mood for all the “wet hot shits” in this book right now 🤢

Thought it would be fun to finish this series but this book was so boring I couldn’t do it 🥲

DNF at ~20 pages. Just not in the mood for this right now — I'll probably revisit it later.

Decided not to finish this because it's so poorly researched. Just in the first 15% there's a lot of questionable history and weird anachronism — for example, eyeglasses weren't invented until the 1200s, but Mathias' father had one apparently? (It would have been a reading stone, not an eyeglass.) I was willing to shrug off the anachronisms since it's fantasy until this line in chapter nine: "In the myths and legends that [Leto] had grown up on, the girls did not—well, they did not do very much at all besides an awful lot of weaving." I can't take a book seriously when the author admitted to not reading the literature it's based on, but still writes lines like that. Margaret Atwood's Penelopiad would be a better use of my time.

Was trying to read this for a book club, couldn't get through it. I'll try again closer to the day of the actual book club meeting, but it's just way too boring, predictable, and cheesy for me 😮‍💨

DNF at 22%, not because I didn't like it but because my ereader freaked out and thought I didn't have it checked out from the library anymore, so I returned it early and placed another hold. I'll pick it back up when it's available again!

Accidentally checked this book out while figuring out how to use Overdrive and decided to read it. After seeing some misspellings of things in/near my hometown and finding myself increasingly uncomfortable with Winchester's tone when talking about indigenous people, I decided I didn't want to finish this book. It's a shame because I usually like his books!
