I buddy read this book with my amazing bestie Jane (@my.bookshelf.and.i on instagram) and I really enjoyed it! The concept and the magic system were incredibly unique and really entertaining to read about—particularly the Graces of the main character and how they worked. The characters themselves I have mixed feelings about. I loved them all (but especially Bitterblue), but I also didn’t really care about them? I don’t know, I just never connected much with the main character. The romance was pretty fun, I loved the ways they interacted and flirted and sparred, though kinda oddly paced at times. The plot managed to keep me on the edge of my seat, with new and exciting problems thrown at the characters in every chapter, and I loved the ending. Definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Absolutely stunning book. I cannot put into words how gorgeous Madeline Miller's writing is, or how beautiful and tragic the romance between Achilles and Patroclus is. The Song of Achilles is heart wrenching and heartbreaking, and everyone should go read it immediately. <333

this book was good! it wasn’t at all close to what i was expecting, and i didn’t love it as much as i thought i would, but it was entertaining and intriguing enough that i’m excited for the sequel! i think my main problem was with the pacing of the book, the way it was written just didn’t allow me enough time to bond with the characters enough to care about them. however, i did like the friendships between them, and the found family was adorable. not to mention the plot, which was really good!! i loved the plot twists and the fight scenes, and the world building/magical creatures were super cool. overall, this book was a bit disappointing (my expectations were high) but still good. 👍

i might come back to this book eventually, but as of now it is not interesting in the slightest to me :/ which is disappointing, because i’ve loved the author’s other books. but this one’s just not for me :)
