beautifully written as usual and very bizarre, which would usually make for a high rating from me but there's just too much overt racism and colonialist rhetoric for me to do that in good conscience lol. can definitely see how this was a landmark novel in the representation of gender in fiction tho. also emma corrin was in the stage adaptation for this so they made me read it idk
jean rhys showed up to WORK. in awe, jaw on the floor, mind reeling. my first five star fiction of the year and it's reminded me why i love reading. a slay from page one. read this
