Not quite the form I expected
Ever listened to audio tour guide? Go to many museums? This is like going to a museum and reading the text of every single object in order. It gets to run together. The pictures aren't prominent enough, and I felt no artistic emotional response.

Learned something
I really like this photo book. The text is interesting and informative without being too much, a first with me for a photo book. I like how it was organized geographically and it ended on a high. One critique I have is that the ebook photos are too small and not laid out for maximum impact. Overall the book focuses on the impressive nature of waves when I expected the beauty, but it worked.

Plotless Isolation
The next day I'm still thinking about it. I've watched a adaptation. I'm looking up analyses. I haven't figured out exactly what it is that intrigues me so much. It's probably the thematic work. If I get it more nailed down I'll let you know.

I see the appeal
Ok so it is very YA, and very precisely its genre, but I would have to work at it to hate this. The characters are such teenagers, in fact they are probably more annoying than your average didn't do their hw 11th grader. It's tropy. It seems to be flirting with problematicaly tropy. However it's dramatic, it's not void of thematic work and I had a pleasant time with it. Except for that one trope. You know who you are....

I think I may have done myself a disservice by reading this too fast. There is some excellant slow burn horror in this, and I raced through it a little bit. The villian and the setpieces were creepy and imaginative. I really loved the ending in particular. I definitely want to reread it once I can get hold of a copy again.
I was unfamiliar with the myth. So this was a good introduction. Of course, I can't speak to the authenticity. I really liked the art though, and the reading experience was pleasant. Nice quick read.
I really thought this would be more interesting. The theme is heavihanded and yet it doesn't feel like there's much done with it. The villainous forces are hard to tell apart. I really liked the underlying structure so it bothered me that nothing more happened with it. But it did pass the time at least.
