I really enjoyed this and don't know of anything else that does what this does. The stories were on the shorter side which meshed with my taste well since it allowed more to fit into the space.
A highlight for me was the story about the ghost dinner.

A nice short little story. The twist was perhaps a bit on the nose but if I had children I would definitely put a copy in the family library for them.
Solidly interesting and well handled middle grade book. I had a good time and will be on the hunt for more by the same author.
A sweet and likeable dragon quest story with some mild trope subversion. Recommended for bedtime.
The beginning did not work for me at all. It looked like it was going in a really exploitive direction. However, it was really beautifully drawn, and later in the book the themes got going.
I liked it a lot. Interesting world lot of great thematic material. I was left feeling like something hadn't yet clicked however and am unsure if it was my fault or the book's. Definitely in for more.
I like what's here and am amazed at how well it aged... but some of the fragments are really fragments
I felt like it was really gearing up to hit me in the feels leading up to the ending but the last few paragraphs did not do it for me all. Like seriously what?
The rest of the book was generally really well done if a bit heterosexual for my tastes.

It was fun and held my attention even though I was soooo tired when I read it. I don't think it was as emotionally effecting as I expected, but maybe my expectation was off.
Strangely (to me at least because the circumstances led me to expect something heavier) the itch this most scratched was the same one satisfied by James Herriot memoirs. Chapters were largely charming anecdotes with some (sometimes tragic) through lines.
