It has that rare "one more potato chip" quality that I long for in anthologies.
The book has a particular perspective and assumed a perspective of me that I did not share. I think the author was not self critical enough regarding her own narrative connections.

The series is at its best before it got tightened up and standardized, with the worldbuilding still emotional and fresh.

Charming
Leguin is good at children's books too. Her way with language lets her craft lovely and gentle bedtime stories. The pictures are delightful as well.

Not magical
It's nothing but a commercial and not a very good one. The attempts at enthusiasm without good writing just makes the park seem dystopic.

Works much better if you know the background it's working with an what it's trying to do.
The illustrations included with each story elevate the collection.
Started off thinking it was a bit mean spirited but funny. Quit reading after a bad trans joke. It's not funny anymore.
