This was a book so outside my comfort zone genre-wise, but I still ended up genuinely enjoying it (if "enjoy" is the verb you'd use for a book like this). I have a weak stomach when certain topics, such cutting, murders, drugs, and even sex, are discussed. I'm such a weakling in that way. With this book though, even at the moments I got weak-kneed and uncomfortable, I still couldn't get myself to stop reading. It was such a gripping novel. It's set in this super messed-up town, with super messed-up yet interesting characters, with such a dark atmosphere and aura all throughout it. It was a book I thought I would like, didn't think I would love, but ended up obsessed with while reading anyway. I can't wait to read more Gillian Flynn novels.

That was an amazing book.

I got it mainly because it was about a pair of artistic twins, since I have a twin brother that is extremely good at drawing and creating things. Also, of course, I had heard nothing but good things about this book.

My favorite part of this novel was how the way it was written made me really, really feel like I was in the head of the narrator. Jude and Noah had distinct voices, and for all the chapters, regardless of whose chapters they were, no matter how strange the characters were, and even if in the moments couldn't really see how I could directly relate to the characters, I understood and felt everything.

Contemporary bores me half that time, but this was contemporary done in the absolute right way.

Even on a reread over a decade after first reading it, I was crying by the end.
