Really enjoyed this.
Some of the language is jarring and the first person perspective from Vianne is nice as you can tell something is up but until the next instalment - The Bandit King - you can really tell/trust Tristan's intentions though hope its for Vianne as is implies.
Well worth a read and not typical Saintcrow fair.

Not as good as The Hedgewitch Quern but a decent finish to the story.
It's nice to see Tristan's point of view and gain a better understanding of his motivations and actions. He really is devoted to Vianne to the point of madness.
The language is still jarring and I again found myself glossing over terms and names. As a few names are also very similar I got a bit mixed up.
The ending is neat and the series doesn't require andy additional instalments, but saying that it is open for sequels.

I'm still finding my steampunk feet and trying different interpretations on the genre. Meljean Brook certainly gives a good spin in the genre. Her history is very well rounded and expansive. I checked out her website prior to starting so had a good idea of the historical background and terms but these can easily be picked up throughout the book.
The steampunk elements were not overt but a constant part if the world and I felt at no point it was jarringly strange to have spider rickshaws it steal sea monsters which should be credited to Ms Brooks fleshed out world.
I liked both the central characters and am intrigued by the supporting cast that should any if their stories be told I want to read them. I'm especially a fan of Scarsdale but as his story would not be mainstream I can not see it being done wherein he would be lead.
As my first delving into Ms Brooks writing I shall be certainly picking up more of the Iron Seas series and look into get other books.
I really did enjoy this book and would recommend anybody who also likes Gail Carriger to pick it up.

Nice interpretation through the graphic novel but can't beat the actual book as there are sections I love which were not in. I can understand why, flow, depiction etc, but still felt it missing.
Worth a read though :)
Worth a read though :)
I really enjoy the Vlad and Leila story as there is less messing around as with the Cat and Bones arch in the Night Huntress Series. Don't get me wrong, I understand that Cat and Bones is a multi-book deal and Jeanine Frost has stated that the Night Prince Series will be a trilogy so there is a lot less room.
The book has the right amount of uncertainty from Leila and its good to see her development into Vlad's world. The bad guy/girl are obvious without it being too explicit as the hints are dropped sporadically and allow for Vlad and Leila's relationship to also be well structured.
This is my kind of light read that I can enjoy with a couple of drink (coffee or adult natured all good), and crack through it in an afternoon.

Nice progression from The Iron Duke but I prefer it, both characters and plot. I did enjoy Heart of Steel, though it didn't feel as tight as The Iron Duke.
I enjoy the Steampunk setting being a fan of the genre, but I felt the character could have used a bit more development in order for me to feel as engaged as I did with The Iron Duke.
Good second novel in the series and will look out the the novella's, short stories and third book.
