the best boy-obsessed book ever written. hands down.

originally meeting christian and gianna in The Sweetest Oblivion, i was intrigued when she always complained about the dirty fed and how he looked at her with such intensity, even others picked up on it.

“You’re not afraid of me.” We were so close his cheek brushed my tear-streaked one when he rasped, “And, baby, I’m worse than the dark.”

learning that christian literally joined the cosa nostra just because of gianna and how he went to therapy because of how madly obsessed he was with her and believed she could never be his... woah. not even considering the almost 8 years of pain, heartbreak, everything that was separating them. knowing each other for almost 8 years and not being together... part 1 of the book was so heartbreaking from both povs and learning their backstories... *crying*

also the banter in this book? *chefs kiss* the way they both literally insulted each other in the worst way possible and pissed each other off. the lack of boundaries for each other and how they pushed each other's buttons, played games of ignoring and provoking one another... the insults with a mix of lust, hate, and obsession were 10/10, like it truly did something to my brain chemistry.

the ending of this book solidified christiangianna as my parents. and then their family appearance in The Darkest Temptation?? so heartwarming ♡

this was good but not as good as the first book, i wasn’t that interested in the plot of this book. i did like the romance but at times i found it focusing too much on the science part which was a bit dragging.

this cheesy, frustratingly cute story would have been rated higher but it was too slow paced at times, even for my own liking. they didn't even kiss until like the last quarter of the book!!

i really wish i had a co-worker who looked like clark kent who is secretly in love with me and is willing to be my fake boyfriend to my sister's wedding back in the homeland because my ex is engaged and i don't want people pitying me if i show up alone. AND then said fake bf learns my native language on his own...??? truly wish that was me.

like i'm a picky bitch with very high standards. and to be honest, this book really made me realize that the bar is set so low for men because aaron blew everything out of the water and was too perfect. this book constantly had me swooning and kicking my feet and twirling my hair..

it was very obvious from the first sentence of the book that aaron is in love with catalina and of course, she has no idea of this. and i understand why she pushed him away AAAAAAA because of course there's a third act breakup but i really wished she wasn't so harsh towards him 24/7. their "beef" was always one-sided, BUT! i get it because of her trauma. his one flaw was being too scared to even ask her out to begin with.

“I’ll give you the world,” he said against my mouth. “The moon. The fucking stars. Anything you ask, it’s yours. I’m yours.”

so if you like typical slowburn books where there's strong emotional connections, hot sexual tension, bed sharing trope, and the male mc being hopelessly in love with the oblivious female mc who thinks he hates her, then i recommend this one.

where is my irl version of aaron blackford??

these two are so toxic towards each other... and i lowkey love it?

ok so like where can i find my own james roth??

“You feed my demons,” he rasped.
“You created mine.”

not rated higher because of how oddly paced the book was... BUT! i loved the main characters a lot.

morally gray men are hot. sue me.

okay, look. yes i know roth and jasmine have a very, very, very toxic relationship BUT! i highkey love it.

roth might be one of the most interesting mmc i've ever read. sure he may be obsessive psychopath but there's still a heart in there. and i want to know more about him. and everyone wants to know what kind of business he is actually in. i think he might dabble in the underworld, but who knows?

this book is so slow, only spanning one month into their marriage. what redeemed it from a lower rating was that they were slowly making progress. but in typical rothjas fashion: one step forward, a thousand back.

They were two broken pieces that somehow felt a little more whole when they were together. They weren’t perfect, nowhere close, but maybe that was as close to perfect as fucked up people like them could be.

truly the best part about this book for me was the flashbacks. you cannot change my mind. they truly loved each other and i still think they do to this day, no matter how much jas tries to deny it.

but apart from the flashback, this book was... meh. like literally nothing, and truly nothing, happened in this book. titled bitter secrets but like what secrets?

guess we'll have to wait for bitter confessions... *sigh*

hot take? i enjoyed this book more than Bitter Heat. i dare you, sue me.

leer este libro me causó tener una crisis emocional porque relacioné mucho con julia y el tema de los cosas que gente de primera generación navegan, especialmente sobre la identidad y que confundido es para nosotros porque ningún lado nos acepta completamente T__T

this is the first non-romance book i've read in a while. and it's the first horror book i've ever read. truly not what i was expecting, and i didn't expect to like it so much.

what made me want to read it in the first place was the setting: 1950s mexico. it's unique, one i haven't really read about.

The world might indeed be a cursed circle; the snake swallowed its tail and there could be no end, only an eternal ruination and endless devouring.

the story itself is bizarre, fascinating, bone-chilling, and dark. reading this gave me the heebie-jeebies. and made me really dislike mushrooms more than i already do.

although a good story, not rated higher because of its predictability towards the end.
