THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD! I genuinely cannot express how much I love this book. It was the first book I’ve read in… a while, that made me truly love reading and feel like I never wanted to stop. I was fully transported into this well developed, intriguing, stunning fantasy world with DRAGONS!
I loved Annie and Lee and Crissa and Duck. Every character was well-rounded and made me want to give them a hug, honestly. Annie and Lee were strong main characters an I felt like I was living through them. The plot was your typical YA revolution closing in, but with the dragons, and the contrast of Annie and Lee’s pasts, there was enough uniqueness to keep it from ever feeling cliche. I didn’t see the twists coming, and was engaged from the very first page.
Beautifully crafted debut and I CANNOT wait until my copy of Flamefall arrives! Please, please read this!

I think I’m going to have nightmares lol

I… I’m genuinely at a loss for words. Don’t read this book if you’re prone to nightmares. Do read this book if you liked The Hazel Wood, or if you like twisty, sometimes grotesque horror novels.
I’m thoroughly freaked out, but it was so good. I could not put it down to the point that I read the whole book in one sitting. The intrigue hooked me from the first page; I simply had to know what happened. And let me tell you, I was not expecting what happened. At all.
From the start, I loved the characters. Iris was relatable and real, and her sisters where interesting and well developed. Every character I read was well rounded and interesting. The plot was…well, I don’t know how to put this delicately…it was a mindfuck. I was freaked out, confused (in the best way), and needing more every step of the way.
Sutherland’s writing was flawless. She writes creepy really well.
Definitely don’t read this if you’re easily spooked, but if not, I highly recommend it.
I do need a nice fluffy romance to recover though.

Special thanks to Penguin Teen and NetGalley for an early e-copy of this book!

I first read this book when I was 11. Back during my worst flare when I was home bound and tormented. I honestly don’t remember much from that time, whether from the inflammation of my brain causing memory loss, or memory repression from the trauma, I’m not sure.

But I know that I read this book, and that it really resonated with me then. I came out of those months feeling a strong connection to St. Therese that has persisted even now. I reread the book to try to gain back some of what I’ve lost with the blank slate where those memories should be.

It was a good novel. I’m not sure how to review it, honestly, being that it is both nonfiction and written for young children. I haven’t read A Story of a Soul, but I’d like to. Maybe I’ll return to this review after that.

Definitely recommend this book. It means a lot to me.
