A fun romp

Good points:
- easy to follow
- comprehensive questions to ask yourself at every step
- is the perfect length with no fluff
- applicable across genres

Bad points:
- uses exclusively default male language for the hypothetical characters

I don't think the "You are MINE whether you like it or not" trope is ever going to be romantic for me

I'm cautiously optimistic that this series will keep getting better

The worldbuilding is super cool. But the protagonist is frustratingly passive and the plot takes forever to actually establish stakes.

I really loved the Berserker Guy and Cute Little Adopted Son dynamic we had. But then nothing was really done with it, and it was superceded by many scenes of dialogue info dumps.

Good points: every scene that the demon is in, grand adventure, rootable protagonist

Bad points (I'm so close to giving this 3 stars): the way this book felt like it needed to have a preface to explain that this book is feminist (it doesn't trust the reader), the way we build for so long to certain reveals and resolutions and then it leaves them for the sequel to handle

I AM OBSESSED.

Our main character, Miles, is so driven and motivated you can't help but root for him.

Contributing to the entertainment is the plot that keeps getting more and more wild as coincidences conspire to make the quest as hard as possible. This combines with Miles' foolhardy decisions to provide both problems and solutions in great packages of irony.

This book is campy and dramatic and mysterious and formulaic and I love it.
