You know what you're getting into after seeing the cover and the rather common title structure: "The Woman" + preposition + noun. But it was enjoyable! It was a quick read and the interspersed background plot was an interesting addition.
I was not prepared for the simplicity of the plot or the wandering thoughts and philosophizing of the narrator. I found it interesting to a point, but it began to lack development.

I usually find it easier to relate to or understand the characters in Koontz's books. The plot surprised me occasionally, which was nice. However, I thought the main character made some unfounded assumptions, leading to pretty drastic consequences that the reader is meant to accept without much questioning.

It was heavy-handed with the hard (pseudo?)science, but it successfully avoided becoming boring to a soft-science girl. I thought the storylines were expertly woven and the characters endearing.
