Badly written nonsense.

The nadir for me (character name redacted to avoid spoilers) was when a chapter ended:

““You know I’m not a killer,” Character X repeated. “You know I’ll never kill again. Right? Right?”

A week later, Character X killed again.”

And then the next chapter began.

Character X killed again. But this time it was in a dream I had.”

Piss off Stine.
I have put up with a lot of pathetic chapter cliffhangers from you across your many, many awful books. But you’re not even trying now.

A Return to Fear Street that’s twice as long as any of the originals, but with no more plot. It also takes 2/3 of the book, so roughly 200 pages, before anything teased on the back of the book happens. In the meantime we have to suffer through endless tiresome pranks played by an awful bunch of tiresome idiots.

Plus there is some really problematic handling of self-harm / mental health. If anything, it’s somehow worse than most of the 90s books, but with less excuse. This was published in 2018. Stine, or whoever he pays to write these books, should have known better by then.
