This one was hard to rate. There were some chapters that were really good and others that were just okay. Overall it was enjoyable and I definitely learned some things I didn't know before and gained some insight into different situations, I just wish it had gone a little more in depth.

Such an emotional rollercoaster, filled with love, heartbreak, friendship, and rivalry. Secrets, their keeping and subsequent revelations, led to so many changes in relationships and reputations that it keeps you guessing. Overall, this was a a wonderful story with all of its ups and downs, the only downside being my personal connection with Hardy's writing style and use of really long, complicated sentences. Highly recommend.

I literally read through this entire book in one day! So good and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.

This is was such a nice, cozy historical read, exploring Chinese culture at the turn of the 20th century with its blend of influences from both traditional Chinese history, fashion, and religion, with the new Western influences; and the lives and experiences of those who were half-Chinese, half-European. Highly recommend.
