This was such a great read! The world is very expansive and detailed; there are so many characters to follow, giving me insight into the different groups of people/beings; the magic and the way it works is very interesting; and the story is very action-packed. The only downside was trying to keep track of the different characters and POVs in the beginning, but once I got further into it and more familiar with them, it was much easier to follow.
Considering that 5 years have passed since the end of the first book and the characters have changed/taken up new lives over that time, it was a little hard to get back into the story, but this one ended up being just as good as the first book. There was still plenty of action to keep the story moving and lots of new characters to meet. If you liked The Passage, I think you will enjoy this one too.
This was such a unique mystery, and I don't think I've ever read a book that took place in Thailand before. The mysteries (because yes, there was more than one) were intriguing, and I loved the information on Thai culture and language that was included in this book. This was also a very quick read, as I finished it in 2 days. I would recommend this if you're looking for a mystery that has something a bit different to offer.
This was a sweet story and a nice, cozy read, but the chapters felt very episodic (like episodes in a TV sitcom rather than scenes in a movie) so it felt fairly disjointed at times and didn't flow as well as Little Women did.
