My biggest problem with this book is that it felt like Louisa went through the exact same things as she did in Me Before You: just getting by and not really living her life, and having to learn how to do that. I also did not care for Lily. I get that she's a moody teenager, but she was completely inconsiderate of other people and I could not figure out why Louisa felt such a need to help her when she clearly had no desire to respect Louisa or her belongings. She was also pretty inconsistent: Every person she met who didn't act as if they liked her immediately she wrote off, saying they didn't care about her and never would. Louisa, however, who constantly nagged Lily, told her off for being inconsiderate, and never acted as though she liked her but put up with her out of a feeling of obligation, Lily never wrote her off and moved on on her own. Lastly, I didn't care much for the romance in the book, as the relationship felt more one of lust than love for most of the book, despite Louisa trying to claim otherwise.
*SPOILER for Me Before You*
I understand with Will's death that Louisa is grieving and needs some time to figure out her life now that he's not part of it, but she traveled across Europe and then came back to London with no ambition to do more than live in a small flat and work in an airport pub. She didn't look for a better job or a better place to live, and she only seemed to attend group grief counseling meetings to appease her parents. Whatever ambition she had prior to Will's death she apparently lost.
