I really liked the beginning of this book. the vibes and atmosphere are great. dark academia 🖤

however I think the plot lacked in the second half of the book. I liked the premise -- potential cursed character, enemies to lovers, overcoming trauma and societal pressures, men generally suck, folklore, etc... but it did not deliver. do much is set up and then not followed through. the ending felt too quick and lacked some of the impact I was expecting. the enemies to lovers rivalry did not exist.

the main characters have their moments but in general are very bland. but the comments on the 2 different countries were uncomfortable and not retracted by the end as I hoped with growth.

I listened to the audiobook and while it was good I do think I would like the physical book more to keep up with all the plot points.

I wasn't going to read this because I thought it just might be a way to milk more money from a popular franchise. I saw the movie and liked it so much I had to read it.

I really enjoyed this. I'm no expert but a psychoanalyst of snow would be fascinating as we got a lot of interesting insights and experiences that morphed him. you root for him to be good for a while despite knowing he never will.

I did like that the movie gave us more into Lucy gray.

really enjoyed this, I'd recommend still reading the hunger games trilogy first I think.

very beautifully written but a heavy book. I listened to the audiobook and definitely wish I had the family tree in front of me like the physical one. interesting idea to follow multiple generations.

I did enjoy parts of the story but it did feel long and dragged out at times. I enjoy mythology and liked a norse story I wasn't familiar with. for people who enjoyed circe I think you'd like this.

my dog's name is odin so this was a fun find at the free little library.
informative slow-paced

it was interesting and covered a lot of topics. it bounced a round a but too much for me and the writing wasn't always the most engaging. I am glad to know about the sonar testing and it's impact on the sea life.
medium-paced

this book is terrible. I got it at a used bookstore and thought it was an interesting premise. the author has an overtly racist CHAPTER let alone questionable moments and comments throughout. she claims to be growing and learning but is really still judgemental the entire book not only of clients but friends as well.

she is constantly hypocritical and contradicting herself. claiming to be accepting, open, feminist, etc. but as the book and events go on you can see the truth behind these claims.

I am not sure why I finished it. I still think the topic could be interesting if written with more inclusivity and genuineness.

I enjoyed this. I found the beginning delivered on the humor. the book does turn darker as it goes on. I like the messages discussed. I felt I learned more about Indian cultures and stories, which I really enjoyed.

the definition of weird girl fic. I don't mean that in a bad way just that is the vibe. this is a relatively quick read, but I wouldn't say it's easy it's so uncomfortable (on purpose). I think people who like this would love queenie. the hard parts of this felt like amplified versions of queenie because of how uncomfortable it all is. I don't like to read what feels like self harm romance.

unlike queenie I don't think this was realistic. the actual plot itself I kept saying this would never happen. I did find the writing poetic at times.

maybe a 3.5 for me. I did learn about opioid addiction and the victims in this book. it focus a lot of those suffering from opioid use, which is different from most focusing on how Purdue pharma and the sacklers created this epidemic. it feels well researched.

I don't think I preferred other works. it's very different from the show. the show is more "inspired" by this.

I don't love that she used the n word despite it being a quote. mostly because she herself says it in the audiobook.

when I read in five years I literally cried, but I was not happy with the ending. I thought I'd give another of her books a try.

while this one was not nearly as emotional for me and also gave me the ending I wanted I didn't love it. I can see the potential and why others would enjoy it. for me the journey to the end bounced around too much and didn't give me enough of what I really wanted because it had to wrap up the other plot points.

if you did like in five years I think this is very similarly written and has a similar "magical realism" underlying plot with the expiration dates.
