So Goodreads just decided all on its own that I finished reading this book, even though I'm still barely half way through it and haven't updated anything all weekend....
This was a super cute, quick, light read and a perfect palate cleanser after all the heavier stuff I've been reading.
I've actually removed the romance shelf on this for myself, as I don't think the romance is the main story here. It's a cute side story, but I found myself not caring about it at all. Or, at least not as much as the relationship ups and downs between our main character Sophie and Cordelia, the bride to Sophie's secret bridesmaid. There was a surprising amount of relationship growth and character growth between the two of them, making up the meat of this story.
Screw the dudes, lady friendships is where it's at!

A true slice-of-life story of the various lives that four women living in a Seoul officetel lead. This touches on a variety of topics from plastic surgery to prostitution to feminism to babies to generational family trauma.
I was completely enamored with all four women, always wanting more from each of their stories -- and that's unfortunately where this book fell short, I believe. We had four narratives that covered so many topics that as soon as you go into one with one girl, you're bounced right out of it and into another narrative.
Despite the feeling of never getting enough and feeling as though this could go deeper, I did love what I got on the page. I feel like I knew all these women and the struggles they went through. I do wish that this had more of an ending that wrapped up their stories, but this was a true slice of life; we're with them for this short period of them, and then we're gone and they keep living their lives.
The best part was how real they felt to me. As if, even though the book ended and I'm no longer with them, Ara and Kyuri and Miho and Wonna are out there continuing to live and to survive.

Wow wow wow. My heart hurts and is full and breaking and strengthened all at once.
3.5 stars. Uncle Steve write good.
