Let’s see. Take one Buffy-like main character who loves free running, studying the paranormal and competitive dancing. Add a broody male character who is at odds with our girl. Stir in a world full of info on all sorts of paranormal beings. Insert a pinch of humor, a dash of religious mice, and top it all off with a hot-and-cold romance, and you have Discount Armageddon.

While it was light and fun and I want a home filled with mice that worship me and mine for anything at all, there wasn’t much new to the novel; I expected a lot more and only got pretty decent paranormal romance fare.

Back to Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series for me.

This is the wackiest of all the books so far, balanced with some incredible game changing plot for Harry. That's probably why I loved it so much.

POLKA WILL NEVER DIE!

This was a pretty solid and interesting novel about how the disappearance of a young woman shatters a family...for the first half. It then turns into a thriller full of twists and turns and overly graphic sexual violence and I'm not about that life.

Even when the sexual violence shows up earlier in the book, it's still an engrossing read about Lydia and Claire and the way their lives were shaped by the disappearance of their sister. There was a larger thematic story at play. Once the violence became the whole mystery -- once the novel turned from character study to thriller -- it dampened any goodwill I had. It was sloppy, heavy handed, and some of it just made no damn sense.

I did finish the book just to get answers, but I skim read the last third or so. I need a shower.

What an absolute delight this series is shaping up to be. To bad Marguerite Sauvage didn't do the art for all the issues, as her line work and coloring is fantastic and a perfect fit for the bombshells idea/image.
