i finished this book in the last day of 2019, after postponing reading it for two years. it was gifted to me in 2017. i was waiting for the right time to read it. it travelled with me to the beach (twice), to são paulo, to rio de janeiro, to the serra catarinense, and now to campos do jordão.
⠀
i’m glad i waited. i’m glad i read it now, when i was in a place i could truly appreciate the story. it’s about a 12-year-old girl whose ex-best friend drowned, and she finds an explanation for this unexplainable thing in jellyfish. a tale about loss, grief, friendship, family and growing up. loved every second of it.

the problem with this book is that it ends
i finished it wanting to reread immediately. i want to live in this world
*starts looking for doors everywhere she goes*

this book would have strongly benefited from a harsher editor. it could have been gut-punching, but as it stands, it’s a somewhat entertaining yet long-winded mess composed mostly of ineffective run-on sentences, a few—too few—great scenes, and wasted potential.
i‘ve started the tv series. i think this plot might work better in the screen. (don’t crucify me.)

you can never go wrong with schwab. perfectly spooky. cassidy and jacob’s friendship remains the best part of this series. better than the first one.
i need the tv show so i can listen to the aurora songs on repeat again and again and again
also, this was one hell of a wild ride and i loved every second of it. don’t be put off by the weird writing style. it works. oh, it works.
