I liked the premise of this book, but didn't like the execution as much. There were so many things that were slowly revealed over the course of the novel, which would be fine if they weren't things the protagonist knew and was hiding/repressing in an attempt to ignore the truth of what happened to her husband and child 3 years prior to the start of the novel.

I felt like the first 2/3 dragged on and not a lot happened and then the final act fell together very quickly and Emilia suddenly realized she knew the truth about a lot of things because it was convenient for the plot. I'm still curious to see how the plot will wrap up in the final book next year, and I'm just hoping I'll like the third book better.

This was so freaking good! I loved all the twists and turns and the slow burn of learning what happened on the night that Zach and Tallulah disappear. The intensity of the last 50 pages as everything comes together was just amazing and I flew through the ending!

I absolutely loved the first part of Billy Summers and could have happily read more about Billy's undercover life while he waited for Joel Allen to be transported to the courthouse for his hearing so he can do the job he was hired for. After the job is done, the story seemed to change. The introduction of Alice and her storyline felt very random, and I didn't really like it. I feel like it would have been fine to just have Billy on his own, so the second half of the book really skews my overall rating. Also the handful of random references to COVID and how how characters don't know what's coming were very off-putting.
