Very cute short story! Love Cam!

This was my first Holly Black book and while I really liked it, I wasn’t in love with it. First, I felt Cardan was underdeveloped, and I was expecting more from him. Things did get there, though, but the first 66% not much really went on! And the twist was easy to guess ahead of time because that character was underdeveloped, too!

However, I was a Jude fan. Her choices may not have always been good ones, but they were for the right reasons. Her sister, Vivi, I loved!! I want to see more of her! She really is a fantastic sister. And their brother Oak was so cute in the scenes he was in.

Here’s the thing, I expected this to be darker than what it was, which is fine that it wasn’t, but the prologue was dark. And I loved the darkness in it. But I also loved the personality of Jude with a subtle humor she has. The world that Holly put together was very cool and she built that world beautifully.

Also the Cruel Prince felt very much like an opening book. And like I said the first 66% was mundane, and Cardan was missing most of the time in that time frame or his scenes were short for a while. So I was like why is the book even titled The Cruel Prince, if he’s barely there?!

Anyway, things did pick up and got addicting, and this is one of those times where I wish the next book was already out or that books came out quicker than a year apart, because I’m very interested to see what comes next! I just have so many questions!

I didn’t get this one at all. I just couldn’t connect with the characters. The love stuff was extremely too fast. I’m not going to say it doesn’t happen but come on! The Nirvana stuff also got on my nerves!

What I love best about Tintera’s characters are they are not annoying. I tend to get annoyed with a lot of main characters at some point. Plus she writes humor excellently! Wren and Callum were magnificent together. And I did get pretty sad about a certain character!! The violence was great, and this series was so much fun!!

I couldn’t get into this one! Too long, too boring! I did like the dual perspective with different timelines, but I just couldn’t connect with any of these characters. I may have to try and re-read this later on and see if my opinion changes...

This one was all right. There are some plot twists and some decent characters, but overall I wanted a little more from it. I still want to check out book 2, though!

I’m putting this one on hold for the moment because it is such a slow pace, which I’m fine with, but I’m just not completely into the story or the characters. Now, from what I have read, I’m not sure I really get the hate. As someone who suffers from chronic migraine pain and a husband who has chronic pain, I didn’t get the hate about that or anything else really besides me being confused for a while!

Buddy read with Sheila

I was confused by this one. Not to say it wasn’t good, it just wasn’t for me. From the cover, the title, the blurb, and even the beginning ... I thought I was going to get something very the Quick and the Dead
like, except set in the future. Instead it was a hodgepodge of things, and the western stuff is only in the first few chapters.

As for characters, this is a small thing, but I just didn’t like the name Pity, so since it was written in third person I kept seeing Pity, Pity, PITY! I would have just loved to have seen her whole name Serendipity or even Seren or Sera.. It didn’t affect whether I liked the book or not, though.

Here’s what I didn’t get about Pity. We are led to believe she’s a badass shooter and stuff, but when moments come she becomes very human. Which I personally love when a character isn’t overly strong, but the thing is, she’s supposed to be from the first few chapters. So, it’s like a character flipflop. Max was super sweet, but even he acted like a baby. Speak what’s on your mind, boy!!

The author writes well, and plenty of people will fall in love with this story. But like I said, I wanted a full blown western set in the future!

I absolutely adore the beautiful cover on this, and is what drew me in first. Then I saw that it was based on a Brother’s Grimm fairy tale. Then I read the blurb and was like, “oh yes!”

First, what I liked best about this story was that the girl wasn’t some overly badass who was some magical fighter that seems unreal in most of these fantasy books. Not that I don’t love fantasies with a girl that can kick butt, but sometimes you just want a story where the girl is strong in another way. Aurelia was just that girl. What happened with her father was beyond horrible, and as sad as it is instances like that happen in real life. And I liked how her progression with what occurred wasn’t a magical overnight healing, but the process of time. Yes, there is a beautiful romance, but it started out as a friendship that bloomed into something more. She also didn’t heal because of a guy, but instead he helped support her in the process.

The journey I had with Aurelia is one I will hold dear. And it was nice to find a fairytale that felt more for upper YA and adults without being all angsty. Plus I liked that the guy was sweet! There needs to be more books like this!

This was a disappointment for me with an unnecessary love triangle. The plot was descent, but I didn’t care for any of the characters!
