This book was such an amazing surprise. Wow. I’m so happy that one of my most anticipated reads for the beginning of 2019 was a hit for me. So happy.
• This was my first Brigid Kemmerer's book, and I just fell in love with her writing. I found it beautiful and mesmerizing. It makes me want to read her other work even more now.
• Despite the length of the book (close to 500 pages), I though it was surprisingly a pretty fast read.
I was enthralled by the story and the characters, which I will protect with everything I have. Whether they were main or side characters, I think they were all very interesting and likable.
The story was darker than I anticipated, and it was sad at times, but there was also funny, touching and emotional moments and like, I loved it.
Harper is badass and she's standing up for herself and she's a queen and MY HEART! Rhen and Grey, my beautiful sons, I love them both so much. Their struggle, feelings, battles,... there is so much and my heart did break a few times, but it'd be a lie if I say I didn't enjoy every single second of it.
• I love the world and the twist(s) on the original tale. It was actually the first Beauty and the Beast retelling I’ve ever read and I enjoyed it a lot. I was absolutely captivated.
• I love when authors dive in the political aspect of things in their books, and I was served with this one.
It’s not just the curse and the romance that allegedly ensues in the fairy tale that are tackled, but also the political aspect and the repercussions of the curse on everyone. It was developed and there was actually a real goal here and I loved that. It felt so much more real in my opinion, and added the depth I didn't know I needed.
• The twist at the end! AHHHH I need the sequel, A Heart So Fierce and Broken, like yesterday!
• The only little thing that made me knock -0.25 is that Lilith felt a bit one-dimensional at times. She was a dark villain, awful too, but also really interesting? We got a glimpse of her motives in this book, but I guess I would've loved a bit more. However, I have high hopes that this will be tackled in the sequel.
It was everything I needed when I read it, and I will for sure re-read it. It became a favorite of mine.
(and please, please, let the spine and the cover of the sequel be as beautiful as this one, if not more!)

Wow.
I'm crying.
The pain is real.
So many questions left unanswered.
There were beautiful moments, cute moments, funny moments, heart wrenching moments, sad moments. Moments that were stressful, moments that were epic, moments I wanted to punch a certain hateful b- in the face (and all these hateful idiots that were following her and her dad).
I loved the characters.
I loved the dynamic of the pairings.
I loved being back in theLondon Institute, with all the memories and references linked to it .
I loved the plot-twists.
I loved everything.
But the ending. THE ENDING.
I'll probably write more later but now I need to process this book, and that ending.
