this book was too long. i listened to the audiobook and it felt like it would never end, it seems so much more fitting to be a novella. the concept was okay, woman turns into a dog because of society blah blah blah. u get it. this book was very american and very suburban, that’s probably the point but it felt so boring. every character was dull, i felt absolutely nothing for the mother. i actually pitied her for being so sad and self deprecating. don’t get me started on the kid, i’ve never seen a kid in literature so annoying and the audiobook did him no favours. i don’t like this kid.

i’m not a mother. i probably won’t ever be a mother, but this whole book felt so alien. i’m sure there’s mothers out there who feel this kind of rage, sadness, overwhelming emotions constantly 24/7. we need more books on women and motherhood and everything that comes with it, what with the fact that most mothers suffer depression straight after giving birth along with various other traumas, pains and emotions. but this book just didn’t get it across. it just feels performative to me- bright neon lights saying “this is the meaning! i’m spelling it out for you! here you go!” i don’t know. i usually don’t write reviews but this book really was not for me.

*spoilers* cw for animal cruelty/death

there’s a part where the mother kills a cat. i hate that. i hate books that have unnecessary animal death for shock value. this cat did not deserve to die and therefore i am taking a star off. also how dare this mother say she’s worried about her son getting blood on him after stabbing a cat?? then everyone acts as if the death of this cat was inevitable and therefore is blown over completely. probably the worst part of this book that i genuinely had to skip. that’s what i get for being so empathetic i guess.

read this last year but didn’t know it was on goodreads oops! anyway. i loved this. he’s not my FAVE riddler but he’s a close second, and i rlly liked how paul writes eddie’s illness, his interactions with people, his definite autism LMAO. he’s just like me fr. excited to read the second issue

this one didn’t have as much about eddie’s mental illness, it was more centred on his work/more “detective-y” but regardless it was very good! i really like his idolisation of batman, it’s very interesting seeing his obsession develop slowly.. and cool seeing him slowly regard himself as a saviour of gotham like in the film. also those batman panels!!! he looks amazing, the art is phenomenal and the writing is amazing

the drama… the SUSPENSE? act two’s ending… the ending of the play….

i wish i did this in school cuz this play is a lot of fun!! jealous of my sister who gets to write abt this smh

the only time you’ll ever catch me saying the film was better than the book

oh my god this book was so cute!!!! i loved every single sentence every single character every single WORD i devoured. i love these characters and their interactions, their communication was on point near the end i love how they all voiced everything they needed to say (and everything i wanted them to say). i love the talk of trauma, and recovering from that with the help from the people around you. i have no idea who voiced the audiobook but they deserve a raise fr, i’ve never enjoyed an audiobook so much!!!

cant wait to pick up the sequel eventually :)

i liked this! man-bat is def in my top 10 fave batman villains and i really liked this jekyll and hyde type thing they did with his character.

scarecrow was.. interesting to say the least but i thought he was fun, and it was cute seeing the suicide squad too! i love the art i think the art really carried the story.

the ending was a bit meh. idk maybe i like my batman comics a bit more dark and depressing but i didn’t care much for the ending of the comic. probably won’t be continuing it but enjoyed it nonetheless
