I really enjoyed this book. When I picked this book up I was in the mood for a contemporary and this one surprised me with the Motor Club element. It had some interesting twists which I did not really see coming. The book also addresses different family structures which are - now that I think of it - pretty rare. At least in the books that I have read so far. Furthermore, it actually has a lot of suspense which is something different than what I am used to seeing in contemporary romance novels. It is a nice change.
Furthermore, the way this series is set up reminds me of Anna and the French Kiss since every book follows another couple. However, we stay in a familiar setting. Moreover, the previous characters we already met return which is also exciting in my opinion.

I expected more of the connection between the characters. I did enjoy it though but I don't feel like it was anything special.
I feel like this will be an unpopular opinion but I did not quite like this book.
First of all, I listened to the audiobook and at the end of some (not all) chapters, there would be music. But most of the time that music felt out of place. Moreover, I listened to it at 1.5 speed and those the music was quite distorted.
Secondly,
Thirdly,

Secondly,

it is kind of a cheating story, as in Jacob fell in love with Marlena but Marlena was married to August. So "of course" Jacob hates August because of that bla bla bla. This way the author tries to justify the cheating. And I just couldn't get into it.Thirdly,
Spoiler
the book completely lost me when Rosie stabbed August through the head... Just to me it is not that believeable
Wow. That was a rollercoaster ride. Everything is interconnected in this story and it comes full circle. Just wow.
Full review might come later. I just need to process this book.

I really enjoyed this book but the end left me unsatisfied. I think this has to do with my taste but unfortunately, it means that although I liked most of the book, I don't feel like I can give it four stars. I guess the ending means a lot to my reading experience.
That is too bad because the build-up was pretty nice. Ellie and Jason meet and Ellie discovers that she had cancer. This leads of course to all sorts of questions: what am I going to do? Will I survive? Is it a good idea to start dating someone?

I loved how Ellie's bond with her stepbrother grows. It is very endearing. The improv comedy shows are also very original. The writer took a risk with the cancer jokes but I don't think it was bad taste. For me, personally, the ending would have been better if it had ended before the surgery. I also think I got thrown off by the "miracle doctor" because most of the time life just isn't that easy. There are probably cases where miracles happened, and I am glad they do. It just wasn't the ending for me.

I definitely enjoyed this book. However, it did not blow me away.
Hector lives in an abusive situation and this time he wants to run away for good. He goes to Isle Royale in Lake Superior to hide until he is 18 so he can get out of living situation. Once he arrives on the Isle he meets Anda. Anda has some secrets of her own especially about her parentage. As the two try to survival the harsh November storms, Hector finds out that there is something odd about this girl on the island.
Anda and Hector are very likable characters. It is not hard to sympathise with Hector once you know his backstory. Anda has done some more questionable things but as she makes a way into Hector's heart so she does into the readers' hearts.
Kang doesn't shy away from the harsh reality of surviving on an island in winter with almost no food. Nor does she shy away from the harshness of the November storms. Although, I wonder if the November storms are really that bad around the area of Lake Superior. Probably not? Correct me if I am wrong.
I also liked how on some areas of the island she had more control and on other parts she had less. It showed the limits and I feel like that is not always very well done in other fiction.
I would recommend this book is you like to read about people with superpowers, small mysteries and magical realism.

Anda's abilities were very nicely done. Although, I am a bit biased because I am a huge fan of Avatar the Last Airbender so everything that reminds me of that makes me happy. In this case, Anda's power to control the storms and the water reminded me of water- and airbending.I also liked how on some areas of the island she had more control and on other parts she had less. It showed the limits and I feel like that is not always very well done in other fiction.

I enjoyed this book but it took me a month to finish. So every time I started again I had to remember where I left the story. This took away from my enjoyment. But I really like these characters and they still are so likeable that that didn't matter to me though sometimes I forgot the plot. Oops.
