Series: Bride Of The Shadow King
Book 1: Bride Of The Shadow King ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 1.5: Night Of The Shadow King ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 2: Vow Of The Shadow King ⭐️⭐️
I really don't know how I feel about this book. I'm not as invested in Mythanar as I think I'm supposed to be, I'm not enchanted by the idea of pretty jewels as flowers and that give off light in the underworld and I really think that hurt my experience with the book.
I had such high hopes for Faraine coming into her gods gift when I started this book. After the first book constantly hinting at the fact that she had stronger powers than just feeling others emotions around her, I thought she was going to come in swinging and have an instant connection with Mythanar. But she didn't. And other than one or maybe two little blips throughout this book, she didn't really show her powers at all.
Her relationship with Vor is non existent until the last chapter and it's more frustrating reading their interactions than anything. Faraine spends more time begging Vor to pay attetion to her and spend time with her, and… you know, other things with her, and it makes her come off as rather pathetic when I just want her to be a strong badass woman with an awesome magical connection to the underground world.
Vor doesn't listen to anything that Faraine says, he just has it in his head she's in danger and must leave as soon as possible, even though it's obvious that her gods gift has something more to do with his world and will probably help with all of the stirrings.
I'm just so confused with all of it. I still don't understand what's going on. The book alludes to so little and gives so few answers that I've spent most of this book just.. wondering what is going on. I don't understand the dark magic. I don't understand the stirrings (except maybe a dragon?). I don't understand faraines connection to Mayanthar. And it's not confused In a good way. I'm frustrated and bored.
