This one was probably the best one in a while for me. I still can't justify 4 stars as I did in the past because, realistically, this entire series is just a whole bunch of crazy, outlandish, ridiculous, (occasionally cringey) nonsense and while it's fun to cruise through the series, I'm not attached to the story of any of the characters.
The addition of The Headless Horseman in this one was my favorite. For a book series that put so much focus on storybook characters coming to life, I really think I was hoping for a bit more of it. We get a couple of them in this book, but.. I didn't love any of them. Maybe I'm feeling a little let down by that aspect now that they've cut off the magic.
The synopsys says this is the last book in the series, but I'm seeing that there's a couple more. I'm interested in seeing where the series goes now that we're done with Dracula.

Right when I think I'm getting bored of this series, Holmes throws Holmes at us! I was so excited to see the addition of Sherlock in this one. Maybe I didn't love that he was working against them instead of with him, but having him show up with all of his quirk (and disguises) was something I wanted to happen from book 1.
The rest of the plot is kind of reaching for me, and I'm not in love with it. I love the murder mysteries in each book, but the addition of the occult and the time travel and Dracula is just all a bit too much and I don't find myself enjoying that aspect of these books.

This was an absolutely wonderful ending to this series, and if the spin-off is still a thing that is happening in the future, I will not hesitate to pick it up.
This book is so outside the realm of what I usually fall in love with when it comes to a fantasy series. I generally like to steer clear of anything that even remotely mentions religion, let alone is so focused on religion. While it may not be a religion from reality, it is still firmly based around priests and the sort.
While the plot and the story line are absolutely amazing, so thorough, thought out and seamless, there is nothing better in this series than the characters, and let me tell you, there are quite a few of them. How Kat Ross produced so many fleshed out, deep, and realistic characters will forever remain a mystery to me. I loved them all, honestly, everyone, even the people I hated, I loved. I couldn't get enough of anyone. I was never disappointed when it was someone's pov instead of another. They all just worked so well together and fit into each other so perfectly. I couldn't have asked for better character dynamic, character development, or character personalities.
The magic system was so unique and a complete breath of fresh air that I needed so badly. So many of these fantasy series lately feel like rip-offs of one another and are basically the same story rewritten. The fact that this story is entirely its own and entirely unlike anything I've ever read before is everything.
I can't rave enough. Highly, highly recommend this series.

Oh. No.
For as much as I really disliked Alessandra, I also really disliked Chrysantha. The good thing about Chrysantha, is I really disliked her less as the story went on, rather than more as the case of Alessandra.
There was more of a storyline to this book compared to the first, so I was really happy to see that, but it did carry a very similar storyline. Pretend to fall in love with the guy to kill him and / or ruin him. I was surprised to see this happen again in the second book as it was the main plot line in the first. I'm glad that we moved away from it, and it wasn't a big focus in the second point, but it still kind of bothers me that it happened at all.
I definitely felt more chemistry between our fmc and mmc in this one than with Alessandra and the shadow king in the first, so maybe that's why I enjoyed this one more, maybe it just felt a bit more genuine to me. I liked watching the two fall in love. There were points where I almost did swoon, just a little bit.
BUT, my biggest issue was again the “strong” fmc that spent half the book whining about how hard her life is and how nothing ever goes her way and woe is me. It was over done… and it got to be a bit tedious for me and put an edge of annoyance toward this book that I was hoping wouldn't show up.
Overall, it's better than the first. But, I never fell in love.

Past Brii liked this book a WHOLE lot more than present Brii. I wish I would have written a review 3 years ago just so I could compare where my head and my heart were then compared to now because I really did not love this book this time around. The opposite happened when I reread Levensellers Daughter of he Pirate King series earlier this year, so i is absolutely not the author.
The biggest issue I had going into this book was, unfortunately, Alessandra. I loved that this book started off with her killing her lover. I was like, woah, this character is going to be so badass and strong and fantastic. And… I rally, really reaaaaally didn't like her. (I would almost say hate, but my 4 year old would remind me that we don't say hate in this family)
So, as I was saying, going into a book where you don't like the main character, it kind of makes it hard to enjoy. Alessandra is awful. She's completely self obsessed. She's rude. She's whiny. The character I thought was going to be badass was just a little girl throwing a tantrum because Daddy likes her big sister better. I couldn't. I just, forking, couldn't.
Then we get to the Shadow King. Who just falls for every single trap Alessandra lays for him. He was so pathetic that I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. All that man wants to do is pet his god.
There's zero political intrigue. Politics happen, but it's all in the background, so we aren’t really a part of it. So, at the end of the day, this story is basically a love story, but it's barely even that because there's pretty much no chemistry. Two people pretending to be in love, actually fall in love. it's over done, and cliche, and unfortunately, for me, it just didn't deliver.

Well… this series is getting pretty out there. I won't lie. I'm rolling my eyes a lot, I'm not loving the plot that connects all the books. The mystery behind the bookshop is getting really outlandish. The murders are fun. But really obvious. They honestly haven't solved a single one yet, they get it wrong every time up until the killer admits it to them. I don't love the characters as much as I wish I did. They just don't feel genuine to who they're supposed to be.
I didn't love this one, and even the cozy murder mystery couldn't save it.

This is my favorite of the series so far!
Maybe it's because we get some answers into the mysterious bookshop.
Maybe it's because we FINALLY get a boom character, and it's Lydia Bennet!
Maybe it's because it's entirely based on Jane Austen.
Maybe it's because there's a whole bunch of Bronte references that I really enjoyed.
Maybe I really enjoyed this murder mystery. (Even if it was, again, super obvious who the killer was.)
While there isn't a whole lot of character depth in this series, I'm starting to realize there really doesn't need to be. It's just a bunch of cozy cutesy vibes, and while I don't love it, I do enjoy it.
That being said. Mina’s mom drives me batshit. But Jo evens her out, so I think it's okay.

Book 2 of the Nevermore Bookshop series, and it continues pretty much the same as book 1.
Crazy bookshop, a murder mystery, and some mediocre and shallow characters.
The murder mystery was fluffy and cutesy, just like book one, I just wish that it wasn't so obvious who committed the murder. It felt like the author really had to try to mistake the killer for the wrong person.
There was some relationship development between Mina and her guys, but I still find the characters all super shallow without much personality. The books are still enjoyable, and they don't claim to be anything more than what they are.

I can't figure out why I didn't love this as much as last time, but I just… didn't.
I found Mina to be super immature, so it was hard to relate to her. While I liked the guys, I didn't love them, nor did I really feel any chemistry with any of them. Probably Quoth more than the other 2, which was rather disappointing because I wanted to love Moriarty. He's just not… Moriarty enough.
I liked the murder mystery aspect of it best, I think. Even though it was super fluffy, I found it cutesy and enjoyable.

This was a wonderful reminder that it's not just me. So honest and relatable, and I loved it.
