Brené Brown is changing my life with every book I read. I got so much out of this.

This is a YA novel, but I highly recommend for everyone, of any race or age. It’s a quick read but so meaningful. The way the author handles how the black teen protagonist and her white friend get over their individual fears of talking about race to talk openly and awkwardly and emotionally together is a great model for adults, too.

I’m very mixed on this book. I loved it and it annoyed me, back and forth, again and again. I’m rounding up to four stars because the prose was interesting and the humor actually made me laugh out loud quite a few times, maybe because it popped up unexpectedly in otherwise duller moments of the story.
