I’m fan of Catherine McKenzie books. I’ve read them all and have been looking forward to reading The Good Liar. I was very pleased to have the opportunity through NetGalley to read the ARC, to provide my review in return and was excited to get started. That’s where I became disappointed. All the other books I read quickly. They were reads I couldn’t put down! This one wasn’t. It didn’t pull me in like the others but I kept reading wondering if I might find that “grab me” moment.
The story was told in alternating narratives in different forms: first person, third person and interview. This made it easy to keep track of which character was being focused on. I did struggle at first to keep track of who was who when all the characters were being introduced throughout the first half of the book. A few times I had to read back to clarify and figure things out.
I found some parts of the story hard to grasp as believable, possible or true. I won’t get into details so as to not give any spoilers.
As I mentioned, I found the first half of the book slow. The second half picked up some what as the plot twists were being revealed. I was disappointed to discovered that I had guessed a couple of them prior to the reveals. The ending seemed to come suddenly and then felt like there was something missing. I’m sorry to say that I was looking for more.

I’ve been struggling with how many stars to give. If I had never read this author before it would likely be 3 stars but because I love every other book this author has written, I’ve decided to give 4. And I’ll still be looking forward to reading everything else Catherine writes in the future.

I found this book on NetGalley and thought I would take a look. It’s a quick read and definitely focused toward beginners but there are better books out there that focus on just witchcraft. This book has a problem with staying in line defining witchcraft and jumps over to the Wiccan focus. To be a witch you do not have to be a Wiccan. Wicca is a religion. Witchcraft is a practice. The author needs to stay away from interchanging the two.
I also found that this book focused on a lot of spell work. There is much more to practicing witchcraft then spells. As well, the definitions of some of the terms are questionable/debatable.

If you are a beginner to witchcraft please do not take this book as the only answer to your questions. Read lots. There are better books out there.

Additional comment on the choice of colour background on some pages. The white letters against the red/blue background is very hard to read. You want the words to stand out, not the colour.

This book was incredible! I can't nail down what it was that kept me reading. There were so many aspects of this book that I loved! It is the first one by this author for me but I will search out others by Charles Martin!
This book made me get mad, laugh, be happy, be sad and cry. My feelings changed from page to page. The story was so believable that I am sure there are men/soldiers whose life was exactly this way, which really makes me feel for them. Toward the end of the story I had tears falling almost every paragraph. I would just dry one set when another would start to fall!

I originally thought the book was going to be a romance. It was somewhat, but it was also a mystery, and provided some interesting and unexpected twists along the way. I enjoyed learning the twists and was caught off guard when they were brought to light.
The story started off pretty weak and I found it hard to keep reading. About 1/4 of the way through I even started reading another ARC because Ghosted wasn’t keeping my attention. I came back to this one after I finished the other. It took me a bit of time to get used to the way the author wrote. Scenes were overly descriptive and took too long to move on to the next. I soon realized I was skipping paragraphs.
I found that I didn't like the characters. I could never really get connected with them but the need to find out what happened to Eddie kept me reading. About halfway through the book things started to get interesting so I thought maybe it would be so much easier to keep reading. Unfortunately, when the POV turned to Eddie I started skipping pages. There was less mystery and more just explaining and was drawn out too long. There was no action, just detail. A lot of this section was not needed and could have been left out.
I did like that there were minor characters introduced with their own story lines. Although I did find that I had to read back to remember who was who. The subplots were a nice addition to the main story.
I did like that in the end, love won.

I discovered Kerry’s books back in March 2017 and read Everything #1 and Breaking Waves in days! I waited patiently for Everything #2 to come out that summer and again read it in just a couple of days! I am in love with this author’s stories! Waiting for Everything We Give (#3) was hard but I survived :) and was extremely pleased to be picked to be an advance reader. It took me longer to read #3 but only because a busy life got in the way! I loved every second that I had with this story. Learning all about Ian and the hard life he had growing up and how he turned things around with the help of his wife, Aimee, to have a happy ever after life was the highlight of my reading time. I was sad when I swiped the page to start another chapter and found the acknowledgments. My time with this family had come to an end. :(
Wow! What a story.

For future readers, make sure to read Everything #1 and #2 first to get the whole effect! Then read #3! You won’t be disappointed!

Me... I’m just waiting now for Kerry’s next story. I know it’s going to be good!

This was my first time reading a story written by this author. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to beta read this book for Chris. Even in its pre-published form it was a great story. I enjoyed getting to know both of the main characters as individuals and seeing how the story created a life for the two together. Of course, no love story goes without some turmoil, and these two sure had their share! In the end, love wins out and a London Love Story has a classic happily ever after!
You’d be missing out if you didn’t pick this good to be on your to-read list and jumping into it! You won’t be disappointed!
I’m eagerly waiting to read the next story Chris creates!
