This was hard for me to rate. On one hand, it was so super cute and funny, on the other, Heather was a little annoying at times and the punishment for the crime that the fuckboy villain received was so infuriating it quite literally ruined the book for me. It was fun until the “punishment” was revealed and now I’m just so furious. I’m trying to rate the book based off of my feelings of every part not involving the villain (because after what he did why’d she invite him back to talk before he did his big villain thing??????) but I’m also just so angry. He deserved WAY worse than a slap on the wrist. Like wtf.

Honestly if you read it just read it all except skip all the parts that Chris is mentioned. He’ll ruin the entire book for you, I promise.
slow-paced

I am DEVASTATED. Extremely predictable and dull. I had such high hopes for this as the premise was the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. However, nothing much happens for the first 150 pages or so and then there is the bitter love interest that somehow falls in love with the protagonist and vice versa despite literally no chemistry. By the last 100 pages of the book I just skimmed as I stopped caring what happened. I predicted everything anyway. It was stressful actually to know what happens so far ahead of it happening because there was NOTHING of note really happening to further the plot until so much further in the book that you just get so frustrated waiting for it you stop caring. I am so heartbroken as I preordered this and was obsessed with the premise of a cozy sapphic love story with witches and found family. I desperately wish this went a different way. Words can’t express my disappointment

The more I read, the funnier each story gets. I'm loving the cute stories

I am rating this a 4, because while I have massive nostalgia from the movie tied into this book, Howl was pretty unlikable compared to the movie. However, the book made so much more sense and explained so much more than the movie. Overall, a good listen/read, but beware that Howl is an ass.

Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

Smart, witty, cozy, and gripping. This is a very cozy novel with a middle aged lovable protagonist that isn’t more concerned with dating than solving a murder (for once)! Though there was flirting and light romance, that wasn’t the mail plot and I really appreciated that. I loved the added elements of Pandora’s chapters, and all the supporting characters were good additions rather than filler characters for plot development only. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Love in the Time of Serial Killers

Alicia Thompson

DID NOT FINISH: 18%

The main character is so insanely unlikable it’s astounding. Not even her brother and his girlfriend/fiancé are remotely likable. The love interest is extremely bland and flat on the page. A lot of the writing is super cringe too. I just can’t make myself read more, and I REALLY hate DNF-ing a book.

This book was the exact same plot as the first one only slightly tweaked.
