Allen is probably one of my favourite protagonists of any book I've ever read.
If you enjoy queer fantasy then I would totally recommend this book.

(I totally missed that Nyle and Tara were transmen?? But if that's true then that kinda just makes this book even better.)

Rock was the first Anyta Sunday book I read, and I loved and adored it so much that I thought I'd go back and read her other books.
I started with Leo Loves Aries, which I also liked. Then I tried some of her novellas and I liked those too. I thought I was on my way to finding a new favourite author, or one I liked a lot at least.

Then I read this book.

I can't reconcile the writing in Rock with this. It doesn't feel like the same author wrote it at all (except for the whole 'one guy is totally oblivious whilst the other pines' thing that Anyta likes). It's incredibly badly written, like hasn't been properly edited and has infuriating dialogue. It was incredibly hard to get through and is so incredibly drastically different to her other work that I kind of want to forget that it exists/I've read it.

There's minimal chemistry between these two characters, and it all moves way too fast.
Essentially Trey is Shane's twin's ex boyfriend. They've been together 3 years, but a week after ending their relationship, Shane and Trey are together? It feels like an incredible disservice to this supposed sibling love Shane has for his sister, but also it just feels off to me. There is no way he'd date his sister's ex that soon, even if he did really like him, unless he was immensely rude and selfish. Why am I meant to root for people like that?

Also the side characters fell in love after a week too, and that just doesn't happen in real life.
Nothing felt real or believable and I just finished it feeling incredibly frustrated, and then there's more books after this!

Please, love yourself, and read almost any other Anyta Sunday book.

So many people recommended this to me and it was so hyped up, and it just fell a little bit short for me.

It was cute, don't get me wrong, and I liked who Blue turned out to be (one of my two guesses, and honestly thank god it wasn't actually Martin) but it just felt a little bit lacking.

The more I think about this book, the more it frustrates me.

Maybe I was just under the wrong impression about what this book was going to be, but I expected more of a F/F romance than what it actually was.

The leap between friendship and feelings happened so suddenly, and then ended as quickly as it happened. It just felt... really strange. I didn't think either Gena or Finn knew what they actually wanted from each other and that just left me feeling confused about what I wanted from it.

It almost felt like two books; a fandom novel, and a F/F romance had kinda been diluted and mixed together. It left it being overly dramatic with weird payoffs. There were definitely unexpected twists and turns but I'm not sure that's a good thing.

The fandom elements of this book were great in the first half, but then it just got incredibly unrealistic and weird and kinda like a runaway train.

Yes to bi male protagonists!! 1000x YES.

But I kinda felt under the impression that Mike was gay, and it feels horrible saying that, but a lot of the characters seemed to think so (although that could just be biphobia) and Mike himself never seemed overly attracted to women in the book.

I just think there are probably stronger examples of bi male representation out there.
