When he’d been young and naïve, he’d convinced himself that loving someone enough could change how they felt, and then John would develop feelings for Lukas in return. Ten years later, he knew better.

This is yet another one of my somewhat frequent rereads. It is a deliciously low angst dad’s best friend romance, with two very lovable characters. It’s not a long book, but the characters have great chemistry, the plot is engaging, and the spice is hot (I don’t always care for dirty talk, but it’s fantastic in this).

Lukas has been in love with his parents’ friend for years, and he didn’t think there was any chance at all of something happening between them. It was a very good way to make me connect with his character quickly, especially when he thought about how he would eventually have to watch John fall in love with someone else. It still makes me tear up.

“Hey, John.” “Hey, kid.” The tiny piece of hope still living in Lukas’s heart shriveled and died. Kid. Right, because that was how John saw him. Just his friend’s kid.

My favorite part of this book is how the younger MC loves to care of the other MC. Giving him massages, making beautiful meals for them, etc. I’ve read so many books with some sort of D/s dynamic or Daddy kink, where 9/10 times it’s the other way around. In this one, they very much take care or each other, but in different ways.

“Part of being an adult is knowing that other people don’t owe you feelings in return. […]”

Also, Lukas is a champ at reaching ‘the big O’ untouched, which let’s be honest, is hot as hell.

Highly recommend this one if you’re into the tropes at all.

He cared so much about John that imagining him alone and lonely for the rest of his life literally made his chest hurt. But imagining John with another person made him feel like he was being stabbed in the heart, so he was fucked either way.

“No need to look so scared,” he said, sliding the clipboard onto the table. “Has anyone died in here?” Reed barked out a laugh. “Not to my knowledge.” “Or just people’s hopes and dreams?” His shoulders shook as he laughed. “And the souls of small children.” I nodded. “Sounds about right.”

I’ve read/listened to this book a handful of times now, and I really like it. The beginning of the book is pretty rough for me, and it might put some people off to start with. What I love most about this book is the journey Henry goes on, where he believes he has hit rock bottom in the beginning just because he’s overweight, and he goes into dieting and training in order to lose weight and look better for his ex. He gradually learns that it’s about feeling good, being healthy and the amazing things our bodies can do. It heavily deals with themes of weight/weight loss, food, fatphobia and judging others by their looks. Mixed into all of that is a pretty cute romance as well.

To me this feels like a story about Henry and Reed feels almost more like a side character at times. I know N. R. Walker can do single POV very well, but personally I would’ve liked this to be dual, or at least for a bit more of the focus to be on Reed. It’s pretty funny at times and gets me snorting a time or two, but was also a bit overdone at times.

“Rice is done,” he said. When I glanced over at him, he was standing at the far end of the kitchen, leaning against the counter, his eyes were a little dark and there was a bulge in his jeans. “I’m staying over here or dinner will be ruined.”

Some bottle-blond twink with twigs for legs and zero shame pounced on Reed like a Chihuahua trying to hump his leg.

“I’m pretty sure they already knew you were gay.” “What? How?” She clicked her tongue. “Well, there was that time you told David from the mailroom that he shouldn’t wear tweed with polyester.” “Because it’s the truth,” I whispered. “I know it is.” Melinda nodded sympathetically.

The pretty suit-tailor guy looked me up and down with his Judgy MacJudgerson eyes, and before I could tell him I was a better bottom than he could ever be, he clicked his fingers. “Thirty-eight.” “I’m thirty five, fuck you very much.” He blinked, and Melinda put her hand on my arm. “Size thirty eight, Henry.” “Oh.”

“[…] He blinks at me with an innocent look on his angelic face. “You’re either really good at manipulation or terrible at it because I can see right through your act, but I still want to do it.”

I liked this book the first time I read it, and after having Iggy Toma talk sweet nothings in my ears for a few hours, I liked it even more. Iggy Toma can do no wrong, and maybe Eden Finley can't either. I'll have to read more to make sure!

I’m wondering when normal people go shopping, who’s there to tell you to stay away from the candy?” My feet move in the direction of delicious treats.

A semi-closeted ex boy band pop star and his badass bodyguard. It's literally perfect. I am a fiend for romantic suspense, and even though I felt like the romance was on point for what this book is, I wish the suspense part was played up a bit more. More creepy stuff, more risk and danger. You know, the good stuff. Overall it's a really enjoyable book, and I really like the main characters, Harley and Brix.

No matter how successful I get, I’ll always want more. Because hiding behind a career is easier than going for what I want. And what I want is to be loved. Truly loved.

If the danger to Harley (the whole reason for getting Brix as a bodyguard) had been a bigger part of the book, it would have been an easy 5 stars for me.

A balled-up piece of paper hits my head from Harley’s direction. It seems he’s picked up a new favorite hobby: taking out his writing frustrations on me. His aim is getting better, I’ll give him that.

I hesitantly hand him the gun, and I’m reluctant to let it go. Until he smiles. “I won’t shoot you. I promise.” Geez, with his angelic features, he could’ve told me he
will shoot me, and I’d still hand over the gun.

I’m a sucker for the single dad trope, and this is one of my favorites.

The story touched on the difficulties of figuring out your sexuality as a middle aged man, and the troubles that can come from introducing a new partner into your kids’ lives. And even though it wasn’t smooth sailing, the book wasn’t completely angst-ridden either. I’d say it was appropriately angsty (coming from a person that can hardly stand the littlest bit of relationship angst).

«‘Sexuality isn’t cut-and-paste. It’s not the same for everyone. I think the most important question isn’t why you didn’t know, but are you okay with it now? Because that’s what matters. That’s what affects you going forward.’»

I also enjoyed the friendship between Knox and Callum. It felt real, and like they had actual chemistry both as friends and lovers. Their interactions made me smile a whole hell of a lot, which I’d say is a great indicator for a good book lol.

Kale Williams did a really good job narrating the book too. I loved the book when I read it, and I thought he only added to it.

I will most definitely read this book again. If you enjoy these tropes, I highly recommend it.

«We’d just finished a section, and he lifted his shirt to wipe the sweat off his face. Holy fuck, his abs. It took everything in me not to whimper. He ended up pulling the dark tee off and tucking it in the back pocket of his jeans. Knox’s green gaze caught mine, and I was pretty sure my cheeks reddened. [...] He smiled. ‘What?’ Oh, bless his heart. He was so oblivious. It didn’t even compute with him that he attracted me.»

Noah fell back onto his forearms. “Are you here to kill me?” Adam moved closer, head cocked like a German Shepherd. “No.” Disappointment settled inside Noah.

Figured it was time to review this after reading it and listening to the audiobook twice. I probably don’t have any original thoughts on it, I just love it. Onley James has a way to hit that perfect blend of action and romance for me.

Adam placed his foot on the dead man’s chest, grabbing the handle of the blade, which was embedded in the man’s head, pulling with all his might. “What the fuck is this thing? Excalibur?”

My favorite parts of the book are probably whenever Adam seeks help from other people on how to help/be better for Noah, because he doesn’t quite understand it on his own. Psychopath or not, you can’t fault the commitment here. Noah is just a perfect little freckle-faced man who’s a tiny bit broken (for good reason), and he fits so well with the Mulvaney family. Their dynamic of Noah being the boss outside of the bedroom while the stone cold psychopathic killer who looks at him like his mafia queen (Simon from Gentlemen Prefer Villains, anyone?), is the boss in the bedroom, is the cutest thing. I love them both.

He seemed to be this strange mixture of brute force and childlike possessiveness, like Noah was his new favorite toy and he’d smash it before he’d let anybody else play with it. That shouldn’t have been hot… but it was. Noah had never been anybody’s favorite anything.

I’ve finally started the second book in this series, and I’m so happy about Adam and Noah showing up in that as well.

Hallmark didn’t make ‘sorry your dad was a piece of shit’ cards. Though, given the prevalence of shit dads out there, maybe they were really missing out on something.

“No circus animals. No permanent damage. You can’t pee on me.” Adam barked out a laugh. “What?” “It’s a thing. Oh, and no spitting in my mouth. That’s a hard limit.” Adam was starting to think he and Noah watched entirely different porn. “Noted.”

“Why did you tell her I’m your boyfriend?” Adam frowned. “Because telling her that you’re the son of one of my murder victims and we’re together because I happened to get off with you this morning sounded like a mouthful.”

He was one big trauma response wrapped in a blanket of kinks and insecurities.

“Nothing has ever felt more real in my life. Nothing. Not my work, not my pack or my family, my life in the military. God, I don’t even feel real anymore, Silas. You are my real.”

Probably my favorite MM omegaverse. My second time reading it (listened to half of it when I figured out I had access to the audio), and it was just as good the second time around. It’s a little dark and gritty, angsty for an omegaverse novel, and no instalove. It’s a slow burn with a lot of mental and physical healing happening long before anything happens between MCs, which I really love.

It’s diverse and a very different take on the omegaverse trope than many others I have read (which is a LOT). Highly recommend if you like this trope but want a bit more seriousness mixed in. Great mental health representation as well.

Gideon was… well, not what Toby had been expecting. He had short brown hair and a moustache to rival Tom Selleck. A moustache? Oh yes. Toby liked it. A lot.

I’m on a mission to reread N.R. Walker books I’ve previously read but not reviewed, and this cute af book was up first. It’s plenty sweet, funny and hot, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoy single dad romance books. The child is only a few months old and is a huge part of the plot. Thankfully, the MCs are complete characters as well, and I especially enjoy how bossy Toby is, but not in a toxic way. It’s like he’s aggressively caring, lol.

If single dad, the nanny trope and low angst is your jam, then I highly recommend this. To me it might even be a bit too low on the angst, but this is still the third time I’ve read it, so clearly I enjoy it. Glen Lloyd did a fab job with the audiobook as per usual.

“Just so you know,” Toby said, “I’m vers. Top or bottom, I’m bossy either way.” Gideon’s coffee came out his nose.

He was woken up by Toby shoving him away and racing for the bathroom. Gideon must have been draped over him again without even realising. When Toby crawled back to bed, he looked miserable. “You okay?” Gideon asked. Toby’s eyes were closed, a deep frown in place. “My asshole hasn’t been this sore since that sex party in Paris.” Gideon stared at him, and Toby’s eyes flew open like he’d just realised what he’d said—and to whom. Gideon burst out laughing, not sure what was funnier: what Toby’d said or the look on his face.

“You are the gradations of undiscovered colors in my soul. You are the inhale before my blank canvas, the moment before my pencil touches the page. You are the manifestation of my dreams. You are my intensity.”

“We could be amazing—” I felt his swallow, his body shudder in my arms. “Or we could break each other’s hearts.” I kissed his cheek. My lips were wet and tasted of salt. “I don’t want to break your heart. I want to fall in love with you.”

The more I like a book, the less coherent my thoughts usually are. To say my brain is empty after reading You & Me is a massive understatement. There’s only good vibes and ‘aaaaaaaaaaaah’ thoughts. There’s something truly magical about this book. The author did a top notch job of ‘show, don’t tell’ with this one, and experiencing, learning, and realizing alongside Luke (the POV character) is an amazing experience. Being able to see and feel a character falling in love instead of just being told about it is so rare for me.

There were far, far too many things to say about Landon. I could string a mile of adjectives together to describe him and never make a dent in who he really was.

Another thing I adore about this book is that the ‘you & me’ pertains to both Luke and Landon, as well as Luke and his son, Emmet. The rebuild of that relationship is incredibly heartbreaking and beautiful, and would’ve been more than worth reading about on it’s own. Landon’s son, Bowen, is also an amazing side character.

At least he didn’t have a six-pack. He had a nice, normal stomach, flat but soft. It just wouldn’t be fair if he had abs along with everything else.

Also, the spice in this is immaculate. There’s not tons of it, but there’s really no need for it. The sexual tension and chemistry between the characters could set fire to any set of sheets. If you read smutty romance, you’re probably familiar with the *tingles* or if the book is really good, the butterflies that makes you want to giggle and kick your feet. This book doesn’t even need tons of smut to achieve that. A makeout session or a massage on the couch is where it’s at.

This is the second time I read this book, and I think I appreciated how fucking good it is even more this time around. I probably won’t ever recommend anything more.

What did that say about someone, that their life might be better if they’d never been a part of it at all?

I usually looked like I’d crawled out of my own grave. Dejection had a way of sitting heavy on the skin.

To try and bridge the gulf between us, and maybe, maybe, be his father again? Someone Emmet trusted, even loved, and not merely a man he slung bitterness and disdain at.

Landon dropped casual touches easily, and I hadn’t been touched, other than a handshake, for three years. Landon’s shoulder squeezes and knee brushes burned me like a brand. They were moments where, for a single second, I wasn’t alone in the world. I existed. I was a person, and another person’s warmth reached me.

The pants fit close to my body. I’d never had something show off my butt like that, and I stared at myself in the mirror. Did I look like a frog that had stood up and forgotten his ass somewhere?

Hey, Google, I thought. How do you break your own heart first so someone else can’t?

Can you tell I struggled with picking a quote?

Asher smiled, and good fucking lord, Harry hated him. “I want to put a gun to your head,” Harry mumbled. “So fucking bad.”

I really do love this book, but I enjoyed it even more when I listened to the audiobook. I love romantic suspense so much, and this is *full* of action. I enjoy the ‘mystery’ part a lot, and especially how it’s all solved and wrapped up by the end.

Honestly, if Harry wanted to kill Asher while he slept, with nothing but his bare hands, he very well could. And so Asher closed his eyes and let sleep claim him, knowing if death was to meet him, he’d rather not see it coming.

I’m also very impressed by how the author wrote two interesting MCs with so much depth in a book where so much is happening externally. Asher’s life and story made me a bit weepy.

“Why didn’t you start with that?” Asher zipped up his duffle bag and grinned at him. “Because it turns me on when you get mad.” Harry stared at him. He took the longest, calming inhale he could manage and exhaled just as slow. “You must be really turned-on,” he mumbled. “Because I’m really fucking mad.”

There is a fair bit of things I’m not usually that into (enemies to lovers, fighting as foreplay, banging without lube or prep), BUT, it works so well for these guys. They’re both very much into it, which helps, and when they do pass the ‘enemies’ stage, it’s so damn loving. Also, they’re both just seriously badass, lol.

“Did you call me baby?” Asher was so freaking happy. “I’m sorry, I think I misheard you. Could you repeat that?” “I said,” Harry enunciated slowly, “shut the fuck up.”

Harry thought of himself as more of a ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of guy. Sure, he could kill people too, but he looked like he killed people. Asher looked like a guy on vacation.

“How much longer do I need to suffer being in this car with you?” Harry asked. “Is there a petrol station or a motel? A bridge, perhaps, that I could throw myself off.”

It really wasn’t Harry’s style to shoot someone in the back. “Psst.” The man spun around at the sound, and Harry shot him in the forehead. Much more Harry’s style.

Harry growled at Asher. Asher threw the balled-up tee shirt at him and Harry threw it back at his head five times harder.

“Hey… hey, little star. It’s okay. Everything is okay. I’m here. Do you want me to hold you? Would that make you feel better?”

Reviewing this book is difficult, because I sort of really do love it a lot, but there’s also a fair bit to criticize. I love the story. The hurt/comfort (both ways) is so good, and I love how cheesy and super sweet (and hot!) the romance is. It is omegaverse through and through with knots, lots of slick and tons of scenting (which is adorable). It’s also pretty high heat, with plus points for adorable PDA.

It does have a bit of a wattpad feel. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, it’s just very different. It could probably use a few rounds of editing as it’s pretty rough, but I honestly enjoy the characters and how low angst the story is so much that I can overlook a lot of it. It’s a very long book considering the plot, but I think that’s just the author’s style, which is okay. It’s my third time reading it so it’s obviously fine, lol.

One thing that is pretty jarring at first (and a hard no for many) is that it changes POV in the middle of chapters (and sometimes paragraphs) out of the blue. You gotta pay attention, lol. I get used to it pretty fast, but for others I know it can be super annoying and difficult to get into.

Anyway, now that it sounds like I’ve only got negative shit to say, let me end the review by saying that Miles sounds so freaking cute. He wears makeup sometimes, cute underwear, short shorts, crop tops and knee-high socks. Cute cute cute.

He didn’t want to meet the football team. He didn’t know what had possessed him to say that he would. Well, he did know what had possessed him. It was what Naeem had referred to as “the spirit of good dick”.
