This main character is the kind I absolutely hate in literary fiction: an asshole with no redeeming qualities. I've had to read too many books with a main character like this back in school, as this character stars in a lot of Dutch literature. I just don't care about anything that happens to him and I don't care to listen to how he sees the world.
