Although this one took me a little bit to get into, once I was in, I was hooked. I found myself continually guessing until late in the book, which is exactly how I like it - I'm not a fan when I can figure out the killer or person responsible in the first little bit of the book - takes the fun out of it for me. One of the things that truly did it for me in this book were the 90s slasher movie references and all the nostalgia - give me more. I found this book to be quick moving, and quite the wild ride. I ended up being pleasantly shocked by the ending, and every fiber of my body wants a sequel. 4.5 stars.
Okay, so initially I was drawn in by the cover - but I stayed for the story. I really enjoyed this world of experimental magic, cursed storms, wonderful worldbuilding, enemies to lovers back to enemies and all the other elements that made up The Darkening. I found the pacing to be perfect, and that I truly wanted to continue to know what would happen. Also, give me more Vesper.

I'm a sucker for a good Sleepy Hollow story. I also adored the illustrations on this one.
The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers has a solid concept and premise and the story was clearly written with love, however, I'm disappointed to say I never truly got sucked in. I found the writing style, as well as dialogue, and many elements of the plot, geared toward a much younger audience, and I found it hard for me to relate, even reflecting on my own much younger years. Although the writing style/audience aim made this a relatively lackluster read for me, it quite simply wasn't written for me or my age group. I can definitely see others in a younger reading generation thoroughly enjoying this one. I would definitely recommend it to younger YA readers who come into the store, as well as my nieces when they're a little bit older. I truly believe this book would be magical in the hands of a young YA reader, just not for me.
