Initial reflection: The world building is so cool. I think I’d have to read these again to more fully understand everything! Always love when the different POVs converge! NKJ does a great job of building to that for the entire series. 

Initial thoughts:
A nice slice of life with a unique story telling device that I very much enjoyed. Loved reading the perspective of a young, Black boy and appreciated how authentic it felt while still feeling like a unique perspective.

Damnit I really enjoyed reading  this and I tried really hard to take my time and not rush it but I wanted  to devour it.

I think this book was cute and  beautiful and fun and intriguing. I really enjoyed the story and the plot overall. The pacing was pretty quick  and I loved the flashbacks of the AIM messages. 

The romance was very swoony and a bit sultry. 

The magical realism made this so so wonderful! 

Would read again especially to highlight the prose that spoke to me.

A satisfying sequel! Love the blend of mythology, magic, horticulture. Both books were great and a unique way to tell a coming of age story! The lore is immersive and creative!

Really enjoyed this story and writing overall! The plot was intriguing and I liked the pacing. I enjoyed the characters and would have been fine getting even more details on the side characters. The narration was really good.

Short and sweet! Could make a cute hallmark movie! Low to no tension and an adorable HFN
