Ikenna plays no games! And if you're looking for a book that screams #BlackGirlMagic then this is it! I can say.. I feel like there was so much building up that I almost gave up on this read but in the end, I'm glad that I held on. The plot twist you will never see coming and the twist alone is what makes me want to read the next book in the duo. This book is particularly great if you are into fantasy novels with major world building. I feel like you read first to hear the story and then you have to read it again for understanding. All in all, I am happy that I read this book and can't wait to start book 2

Eden Royce does an amazing job of explaining the GeeChee community in such a fun and immersive way. I enjoyed Root Magic and knew that I was going to become obsessed with Conjure Island. This book touched on grief and how lonely it can be when dealing with it alone. Especially when you don’t have community around you.
I enjoyed everything about this book

For African-Americans, the beginning of this story may be triggering. Centered around the time when Europeans started taking Africans from their homelands, this story centers around a teenage mermaid (mami wata) and her journey of accepting her title and responsibilities as mami wata.

After saving a life of a boy thrown overboard, Simi journeys to find the Supreme God to ask for amends. We follow Simi as she deals with the dangers of trying to rectify her mistake
