This story is so negative, but it carries an important message of knowing your worth and when to walk away. The story follows the rise and fall of Hemingway’s marriage with his first wife, inspired by the various letters/diaries/memoirs/interviews. If you read this, there’s a 95% chance you’ll end up hating Hemingway as a person/character by the end

4.5/5 stars

I love Holocaust literature, so I’m not shocked I was attracted to this book. I definitely don’t regret snagging it when it was on sale.

If you’re looking for a story of redemption, this is it. Lucien, the main character is an absolute asshole for half the book (but great story), but you can follow his progression as a person throughout the novel.

This story definitely gets dark at times though, so this isn’t one for someone that has an issue with violence. Foul language warning too.
