First of all, the artwork is beautiful. Absolutely detailed and gorgeous. I love the focus on friendship and the short side-trips they take along the way to their main goal. The twist at the end was great and completely unexpected. I really wish this was going to be a series because I would follow this bestie trio forever!

I'll be honest, I initially picked this book up because of the amazing cover art and the fact that it reminded me a lot of the series W.I.T.C.H., which I used to watch as a child. While I can definitely see the inspiration from W.I.T.C.H. (five girls with superpowers that were bestowed to them by an other-worldly being to who fight evil other-worldly beings), this story has its own unique elements. I appreciate the racial/ethnic and sexual diversity of the characters, the varying personalities, and the beautiful use of a pink-themed color palette. I also appreciate that their team was formed before the beginning of the series, so there was no need to waste precious pages introducing how they all met and stumbled through the beginning of their superhero-ship. We are able to jump right into the main plot line, and I am eager for when Volume 2 is released!

Love love love Cindy Moon! I'm loving the fact that this story has an Asian-American female lead, and I'm excited to see where her story goes. Vol. 0 is a great introduction to her backstory and current circumstances, and I'm excited to continue the story. Also, her outfit is awesome!

I was blown away by how absolutely captivating and moving this story is. I knew next to nothing about the Islamic Revolution in Iran, and this book does a great job being historically informative but also showing the human-side to the issue. So often when we think about or are exposed to such historical events that are outside of our own nation, we do not think about how real life people were changed, put in danger, and had to adapt to a new way of living. The use of only black and white was an expert choice that forces readers to focus on the story. I'm excited to purchase and read Volume 2, and I wish I had read this much sooner!

For me, the mark of an excellent collection of poetry is if I feel as if my soul is being replenished just by reading it. That was definitely the case while reading Upile Chisala's collection Nectar. Her mastery of words and the ability to convey emotion through her words is astounding, and I am looking forward to whatever she releases next!

Super cute! I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. The concept of telling a love story of two people from the perspectives of fourteen other people, things, and animals was a bit strange to me, but also intriguing enough for me to buy the book. This love story is expertly put together and even though you never get the perspective of the two falling in love, there is not a feeling of plotholes or gaps in the story. A superbly executed job on a very unique idea!
