This book was absolutely hilarious. I loved Joy’s journey of wading through her emotions for her best friend while also finding a way to love herself in the process. This book was messy, funny, and just what I needed. If you like single-perspective romcoms that feature vacations, have low spice levels, and have a bit of a love square situation going on, I’d recommend this book for you! THE ROMANTIC AGENDA also has asexual representation.

This is a stunning debut series opener that serves as a righteous metaphor for the rage of Black people that is constantly suppressed and the ramifications of that oppression. BLOOD SCION dares to ask the question: What happens when we take away a person’s humanity and leave them with no options or way to survive? It is harsh and brutal without glorifying the violence.

The first half is slower paced and sets the tone of the world, but the second half ratchets up the stakes two-fold and grips you until the end. I wasn’t expecting the ending at all — nobody’s safe in this book! There’s complex characters that force our protagonist Sloane to learn that not everything or everyone is so clear cut or easily defined, even herself. Throughout the entirety of the book, both Sloane and the reader are constantly asked: What makes a monster?
