A dual-authored historical fiction novel by Shaunna J. Edwards and Alyson Richman, THREAD COLLECTORS follows two couples, one Black and one Jewish, both separated from their loves by The Civil War. I enjoyed this novel, even though it had some moments of slow pacing. It was heartwarming but realistic to the time period without languishing in Black trauma. I would definitely read more from this pair. Thank you to the publisher for the finished copy.

Tiffany D. Jackson is a master storyteller, and in GROWN, she employs one of my favorite aspects of the first novel of hers I read a few years ago (MONDAY’S NOT COMING): a shifting timeline. This expertly crafted plot keeps you engaged, and the past vs present timeline allows you to be fully invested in the journey Enchanted goes on. This novel highlights the importance of having a community, and it confronts all of your preconceived notions about young girls and women who are preyed upon and the circumstances surrounding them. Yes, it’s hard to read at some points and will probably make you want to rage, but it’s such an important story, as well as an excellent thriller.
